Congrats to the IRS for winning the 846.3 M lottery

Winner got 433.7 M

Is this true? I thought the winner would get at least 600M

433.7 M is still a lot of money but damn

If you take a lump sum, then your winnings get discounted by the lottery to begin with. The 1.2 billion would have to be paid over 20 years.

Then the IRS would probably take 37% of that reduced number

After that, it depends what state you live in. TX, FL, NH, WA, NV and a couple of others have no income taxes. Believe it or not, CA does not tax lottery winnings.

Some states, mostly liberal, will tax between 7% and 9%. So you could pay as much as 44% to 46%

I wonder how many tickets winner played ?

We may NEVER know who won , Illinois allows you to be anonymous ........ that's what I'd do keep my name/image outta the media

I always found it fascinating that lotteries are taxed in the USA.
Doesn't the govt run them?

I see the $2 ticket going up a dollar both Mega/Powerball. Wish they would spread the prize money out when Jackpots are over 20 Million

Example say pot is 20 million divide amounts if more then 1 ticket

Match 5 + PB 10 million vs. now Too Much for anyone

Match 5 5 million vs. 1 million

Match 4 + PB 3 million vs 50,000

Match 4 1 million vs 100 now

Match 3 + PB 700,000 100 now

Match 3 300,000 vs $7

Match 2 + PB 5 Free Tickets for 5 Draws vs $7 now

Match 1 + PB $2 vs $4 now

Match 0 + PB $2 vs $4 now

Tonight's Jackpot is $170 Million so we can imagine/dream

Tonight winner would get 80 million with rest spread out....
