Fully vaccinated epidemiologist goes to house party with 14 people (all vaccinated).
11 people end up with COVD
Great. Did any of them die? No. Also from the article:
State and local health departments, and the CDC, need to do a better job collecting and reporting data on breakthrough infections. The CDC announced in May that it was only going to collect data on breakthrough infections that led to hospitalization or death, which are fortunately rare. But that means that outbreaks like ours will fly under the radar. Any of us could infect others, apparently including other vaccinated people.
It’s not clear if our group got sick because of a particularly virulent variant, because the vaccine is wearing off or for some other reason. Without good data, we’ll never know.
Would be great to know more details about this mini-outbreak outside of the statement that 11 vaccinated people were infected. Did any of them have weakened immune systems, how recent did they get the shot, were they all infected with a vaccine resistant variant like Delta.
But when public policy prevents such data from being tracked, we get to have those
SENSATIONALIST HEADLINES that evoke a response based on fear, rather than rational thought.
