All jokes aside, it doesn't cushion a blow. A head gear only cushions a blow minimally. Amateurs use headgear to reduce cuts from headbutts and cuts in general. There's really no stopping the rattlin of the brain from a direct jaw shot.

Look at a beard like big countrys though, that basically is head gear. In boxing you have to shave it, it definitely miffs me it is allowed....

With all the split decisions I saw tonight, I think one may have been warranted there. Lawler looked to just gas and lock up with less than 2 minutes to go. Think he did the most damage overall though.
