[h=1]Alabama finishes ranked No. 1 by AP; UCF garners 4 first-place votes[/h]
Alabama was voted No. 1 in the final Associated Press college football poll after the Crimson Tide beat Georgia in the national championship game. Unbeaten UCF finished sixth.

The Crimson Tide received 57 of 61 first-place votes from the media panel after its 26-23 overtime win Monday night. UCF received the other four and finished with the best ranking in the history of the program. The Knights are the first team to finish the season undefeated and not win a national title since TCU in 2010.

Georgia finished second, its best ranking since 2007, and Oklahoma was third, followed by Clemson and Ohio State.

The national championship is the 12th for the Crimson Tide and fifth under coach Nick Saban since 2009. Saban joins the late Alabama coach Paul "Bear" Bryant as the only coaches with five AP titles.

Alabama is the first preseason No. 1 to finish No. 1 since USC in 2004 and the 11th overall. For the fourth time, two teams from the same conference finished Nos. 1 and 2. The past three times it has happened involved SEC teams at the top (2007, 2011 and now 2017).

Washington State, which lost to Michigan State 42-17 in the San Diego County Credit Union Holiday Bowl, was the only team ranked in the final regular-season poll to fall out of the Top 25 after the bowl season. NC State moved in after beating Arizona State 52-31 in the Hyundai Sun Bowl and finished No. 23.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

Whoever voted ucf number one should permanently lose their vote. Bama won the national championship game. They are number one.

Yeah the same people that think Alabama shouldn't have been in the game probably think UCF is the national champion. Bama deserved to be there and they proved it by winning it all. Ohio state blew it by losing twice.

I'm not going to debate whether or not Bama deserved to be there, they were obviously in the discussion. My argument would be UCF deserved to be in the discussion as well.

I will say winning it all does not prove whether or not they deserve to chance to win it all. Once in, anything can happen

Not really, not any more. But I hope to some day, once the program becomes competitive again.

We've suffered through 7 miserable years, having hired and fired two horrific coaches.

As we can see they put the right team in the playoff as they won the national championship.I don't care who Ohio st beat,i don't care USC won their conference,i don't care right now about anything except ALABAMA won the title.Vegas has them the favorite before they even got picked as the 4th team,so its obvious that a hell of a lot more people thought they deserved to be there rather that a few,....so just accept it,and one more thing,UCF could not hold BAMA'S jock strap, and whoever picked them 4 votes should have their head examined

ROLL-TIDE !!!!!

So with that logic, lets just bet the vegas money line on EVERY game. We'd all get FILTHY RICH if we did that, right?

There are 13 people on the college playoff committee who decided to take Bama over the previous teams mentioned. 13 people doesnt sound like a hell of a lot of people to me.

We dont know if UCF could or could not hold Bama's jock strap. That is your opinion. Bama couldnt hold Auburn's jock strap during Thanksgiving weekend. Auburn couldnt hold UCF's on New Years day. So no telling what would happen.

Yes, bama won their final 2 games of the post season. So congrats to them

If they ever expand to 8 teams, the same guys will be here bitching about the 9th team that didn't get in, and how they were hot enough to run the table.

there will always be some complaints, but with 8 teams and the right format, every team in the country will have a chance to play their way into the playoffs. A team like UCF will get in

the 9th team will be from a major conference that didn't win the conference championship, so they blew their chance

5 Power Conference Champions (however the conference decides to crown their champion)
1 best team from the other conferences
2 at large, the committee picks two teams and maybe has a say in the best team from other conferences if there's no obvious selection

Plus if every conference plays a championship game, we would be then (technically) have a 12-16 team playoff every year.

1 of the arguments will be "too much travel for the fans". The easy answer is for the quarterfinals, make the better seeded team play at home. Or for the quarter finals, make them regional matchups. Make the acc winner play the sec winner. Make the B1G winner play the Pac 10 winner (or something like that)
