DET vs LAA

1* Bonus Play OVER Tigers/Angels

Anibal Sanchez (3-6, 6.04 ERA) was shelled for six runs off eight hits in a loss to Philadelphia on Wednesday. Sanchez has given up 40 home runs in his last 204.2 innings of work and has been particularly horrible on the road so far, 1-3 with a 5.59 ERA. The home side counters with Hector Santiago (3-3, 4.58) who was rocked for six runs off five hits and two walks over just two innings in a loss to Texas on Wednesday. So far Santiago has posted a career-worst 7.04 K/9 and 1.80 HR/9. And he has been better on the road (4.00 ERA) than at home (5.68). With these “gas cans” squaring off on Tuesday night, consider a second look at the OVER.

Cardinals vs Brewers

Play - St. Louis Cardinals w/Leake

Edges: Cardinals: Mike Leake 5-2 with 3.20 ERA and 1.00 WHIP last seven overall team starts. Brewers: Wily Peralta 8.76 ERA and 2.07 WHIP at home this season. With Peralta and 0-5 in his last five team starts in this series, including 0-4 at home, and the Redbirds 12-4 their last sixteen games in this park, we recommend a 1* play on St. Louis. Thank you and good luck as always.

Preview: Padres at Mariners

Current Conditions - Seattle

CLEAR 48 °F
Wind: NNE 3
5-Day Forecast
GAME: San Diego Padres (20-32) at Seattle Mariners (29-21)
DATE/TIME: Tuesday, May 31 - 3:40 PM EST
WHERE: Safeco Field, Seattle, Washington
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The San Diego Padres look to close a disastrous road trip on a positive note when they visit the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday. The Padres are 1-6 on the excursion after being pounded 9-3 by the Mariners on Monday in the opener of a four-game, home-and-home series that shifts to San Diego on Wednesday.

The Padres have allowed 23 runs in their last three contests and have sunk 12 games below .500 while residing in the basement of the National League West. Seattle halted a three-game skid with Monday's victory by using two big innings - four runs in the sixth, five in the eighth - to subdue San Diego. Robinson Cano was hitless in three at-bats in the opener but drew a walk to reach base for the 28th consecutive game. Cano surely is salivating at the sight of Padres starter James Shields, as he is batting .411 with five homers, nine doubles, two triples and 16 RBIs in 90 career at-bats against the right-hander, who spent most of his career in the American League.

TV: 3:40 p.m. ET, MLB Network, FSN San Diego, ROOT (Seattle)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Padres RH James Shields (2-6, 3.06 ERA) vs. Mariners RH Hisashi Iwakuma (3-4, 4.33)

Shields has pitched well over the last five weeks, allowing two earned runs or fewer in five of his last six starts. He settled for a no-decision in his last turn, when he gave up two runs and five hits in six innings against San Francisco. Shields is 5-5 with a 3.60 ERA in 18 career starts against Seattle and has served up five homers to Adam Lind in 54 at-bats.

Iwakuma has recorded back-to-back victories, giving up three runs in each of the outings. He didn't issue a walk in Wednesday's win over Oakland for the first time this season - he has passed out 17 after walking just 21 in each of the previous two campaigns. Iwakuma has been roughed up at home this year, going 1-2 with a 5.55 ERA in four starts.

WALK-OFFS

1. Mariners 3B Kyle Seager hit a two-run blast on Monday to end his 11-game homerless streak.

2. San Diego 2B Yangervis Solarte is 8-for-24 with three homers and seven RBIs during the road trip.

3. Seattle RF Nelson Cruz was 2-for-4 with one RBI in the opener and is batting .354 with three homers and 12 RBIs over his last 13 games.

PREDICTION: Mariners 6, Padres 4

Preview: Astros at Diamondbacks

GAME: Houston Astros (23-29) at Arizona Diamondbacks (23-30)
DATE/TIME: Tuesday, May 31 - 3:40 PM EST
WHERE: Chase Field, Phoenix, Arizona
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Houston Astros are enjoying their best stretch of the season and look to win for the seventh time in eight games when they visit the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday. The Astros rolled to an 8-3 victory behind a 13-hit attack on Monday in the first of four consecutive games between the teams, the last two scheduled for Houston.

Right fielder George Springer has energized the Houston surge with production from the leadoff spot and his three-hit game on Monday makes him 13-for-31 over the last seven games. Astros second baseman Jose Altuve is 6-for-11 over the past two games after failing to have a multi-hit outing over the previous nine contests. The Diamondbacks have dropped five of their last seven games and Monday's defeat dropped them to a woeful 9-19 at home. Arizona first baseman Paul Goldschmidt homered for the second time in three games and has rediscovered his stroke over the past 13 games by going 16-for-43 with three homers and 13 RBIs during the stretch.

TV: 3:40 p.m. ET, MLB Network, ROOT (Houston), FSN Arizona

PITCHING MATCHUP: Astros RH Lance McCullers (1-1, 4.60 ERA) vs. Diamondbacks LH Patrick Corbin (2-4, 4.21)

McCullers defeated Baltimore in his last outing when he struck out 10 and allowed one run and one hit in five innings. He had control issues with a career-worst six walks against the Orioles and has issued 12 bases on balls in just 15 2/3 innings over three starts. McCullers received a no-decision in his lone career start against Arizona when he gave up three runs (two earned) and six hits in five innings last Oct. 4.

Corbin lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates in his last outing when he gave up five runs (four earned) and six hits in 5 2/3 innings. He has been torched in four home starts this season, serving up eight homers in 25 innings while going 0-3 with a 6.48 ERA. Corbin beat the Astros in his lone career start against them when he gave up four runs and seven hits in seven innings on Aug. 18, 2012.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Astros will activate CF Carlos Gomez (ribcage) from the disabled list prior to Tuesday's game.

2. Arizona LF Yasmany Tomas is 0-for-15 with seven strikeouts over his past four games - and 3-for-34 over his last 10 contests.

3. Houston SS Carlos Correa had six RBIs over the past three games after totaling five over the previous 17 contests.

Current Conditions - Cleveland

M/SUNNY 68 °F

GAME: Texas Rangers (30-21) at Cleveland Indians (26-23)
DATE/TIME: Tuesday, May 31 - 6:10 PM EST
WHERE: Progressive Field, Cleveland, Ohio
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Cleveland Indians lost their grip on the top spot in the American League Central with losses in three of the last four games and are in the middle of a tough stretch of schedule. The Indians will look to steal a win at home when they host the AL West-leading Texas Rangers in the second of a three-game series on Tuesday.

Cleveland will need some length out of Tuesday starter Corey Kluber after Monday starter Josh Tomlin, who entered the outing undefeated and third in the AL in WHIP, was ripped for nine hits in 3 2/3 innings in a 9-2 setback. The Indians are playing the fourth in a string of six straight series against teams with winning records and are 5-6 in that span so far. The Rangers moved into the top spot in the AL West with five wins in the last six games and are thriving on offense with a total of 39 runs in those five triumphs. Nomar Mazara and Ian Desmond each homered to lead the 11-hit attack in Monday’s win.

TV: 6:10 p.m. ET, FSN Southwest (Texas), SportsTime Ohio (Cleveland)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rangers RH Colby Lewis (4-0, 3.38 ERA) vs. Indians RH Corey Kluber (4-5, 3.78)

Lewis had a string of six straight quality starts come to an end against the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday but still came out with a win. The California native was ripped for six runs on eight hits and a walk in five innings by the Angels but was bailed out by the offense in a 15-9 final. Lewis is 2-2 in eight career games – seven starts – against Cleveland but owns an 8.44 ERA with a total of 50 hits in 37 1/3 innings versus the Indians.

Kluber is trying to post a third straight win after mowing through Boston and the Chicago White Sox in his last two outings. The former Cy Young Award winner allowed a total of three earned runs while striking out 15 in 14 1/3 innings in the two starts. Kluber is making just his third career start against Texas and is 1-0 with four earned runs given up in 14 innings over his first two chances versus the Rangers.

WALK-OFFS

1. Desmond is 16-for-37 with five RBIs in the last eight games.

2. Indians 1B Mike Napoli has 10 RBIs and four home runs during a seven-game hitting streak.

3. Cleveland manager Terry Francona received his first ejection of the season on Monday for arguing a safe/out call.

Preview: Red Sox at Orioles

GAME: Boston Red Sox (31-20) at Baltimore Orioles (28-21)
DATE/TIME: Tuesday, May 31 - 7:05 PM EST
WHERE: Oriole Park at Camden Yards, Baltimore, Maryland
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Boston Red Sox came into Baltimore with a chance to put some distance between themselves and the rest of the American League East and took a step toward accomplishing that goal in the series opener. The Red Sox will try to make it two in a row over the Orioles and push the gap to three games in the division when they visit Baltimore for the second of a four-game set on Tuesday.

Boston beat the Orioles at their own game in Monday’s opener, slugging three home runs in the sixth inning or later to turn a tight game into a 7-2 rout. The Red Sox had some trouble getting outs late in games while dropping two of three in Toronto over the weekend but managed to get the bullpen an extra day of rest as Steven Wright tossed his third complete game on Monday. Baltimore is one of the best slugging teams in the majors with 69 home runs but is having trouble pushing runs across over the last week-plus. The Orioles are 2-6 in their last eight games and are averaging 2.5 runs in those six setbacks.

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, NESN (Boston), MASN (Baltimore)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Red Sox LH Eduardo Rodriguez (2015: 10-6, 3.85 ERA) vs. Orioles RH Kevin Gausman (0-2, 3.24)

Rodriguez was a shoo-in for a rotation spot before going down with a knee injury in spring training, and his return prompted the team to push Clay Buchholz to the bullpen. The 23-year-old Venezuelan surrendered three or fewer earned runs in 17 of his 21 starts during his 2015 rookie campaign. Rodriguez, who was acquired from Baltimore in a trade for Andrew Miller in 2014, struggled against his original organization with an 0-2 mark and a 4.20 ERA in three starts.

Gausman has yet to earn a win in seven starts this season and struggled through five innings at Houston on Thursday. The LSU product was ripped for three home runs – matching his total from the first six starts – and charged with four runs on five hits and one walk. Gausman has made 10 career appearances – five starts – against the Red Sox and owns a 2-1 record with a 3.12 ERA and 36 strikeouts in 34 2/3 total innings.

WALK-OFFS

1. Red Sox SS Xander Bogaerts went 2-for-4 on Monday to push his hitting streak to 23 games and lift his batting average to .354.

2. Baltimore RHP Yovani Gallardo (shoulder) came through a simulated game on Saturday with no issues and will begin a minor league rehab assignment on Thursday.

3. Boston DH David Ortiz has homered in each of his last three starts, pushing his season total to 14 and his league-leading RBI total to 47.

Preview: Yankees at Blue Jays

Current Conditions - Toronto

M/SUNNY 70 °F
Wind: WSW 12
5-Day Forecast GAME: New York Yankees (24-26) at Toronto Blue Jays (27-26)
DATE/TIME: Tuesday, May 31 - 7:07 PM EST
WHERE: Rogers Centre, Toronto, Ontario
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Toronto Blue Jays haven't won five consecutive series against the New York Yankees since 1992-93, but a victory on Tuesday against their American League East rival will bring an end to that drought. Toronto won for the fifth time in six games by beating the visiting Yankees 4-2 in Monday's opener of a three-game set.

Light-hitting Blue Jays shortstop Ryan Goins entered the series batting .151 but homered and doubled Monday, giving him two extra-base hits in a game for the second time this season -- the first also came against New York. Edwin Encarnacion's power numbers and batting average are down, but he has knocked in eight runs during a six-game RBI streak for Toronto. One day after squeezing out a victory at Tampa Bay despite collecting only one hit, the Yankees were limited to five hits to lose for the fourth time in six games. New York catcher Brian McCann prevented a shutout with a two-run homer in the ninth Monday to snap a career worst-tying 0-for-21 slump.

TV: 7:07 p.m. ET, MLB Network, YES (New York), Sportsnet (Toronto)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Yankees LH CC Sabathia (3-3, 2.83 ERA) vs. Blue Jays LH J.A. Happ (6-2, 3.20)

After giving up four runs in each of his first four starts this season, Sabathia has been outstanding over his last three turns despite a stint on the disabled list due to a groin strain. He returned from the injury to beat Oakland with six innings of one-run ball on May 20 and was a hard-luck loser versus Toronto on Thursday, giving up two runs (zero earned) on two hits over seven innings. Jose Bautista is 4-for-34 with 10 strikeouts versus Sabathia.

Happ outdueled Sabathia and halted a two-start skid with seven superb innings, giving up one run on three hits to improve to 5-2 in 11 career starts against the Yankees. Happ, who has pitched at least 6 2/3 innings in seven of his last eight starts, also beat the Yankees at home on April 13 by permitting one run on seven hits over six innings. Alex Rodriguez is hitless in 14 at-bats while McCann is 3-for-21 lifetime against Happ.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Yankees placed INF Dustin Ackley (torn labrum) on the 15-day disabled list and recalled INF Rob Refsnyder from the minors.

2. Toronto recalled RHP Ryan Tepera from Triple-A Buffalo and designated INF Jimmy Paredes for assignment.

3. Rodriguez, mired in a 1-for-16 slump, sat out the series opener while 1B Mark Teixeira (neck) was 1-for-4 in his return to the lineup.

GAME: Pittsburgh Pirates (29-21) at Miami Marlins (26-25)
DATE/TIME: Tuesday, May 31 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Marlins Park, Miami, Florida
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Pittsburgh Pirates found their offense just in time to go up against one of the hottest pitchers in baseball. The Pirates will try to keep the hits coming on Tuesday when they face Jose Fernandez and the host Miami Marlins in the second of a four-game series.

Pittsburgh totaled four runs in a pair of losses at Texas on Saturday and Sunday but Gregory Polanco belted a grand slam and David Freese added four hits to back a shutout from Jeff Locke in Monday’s 10-0 series-opening triumph. Polanco’s slam marked his fourth home run in 10 games and gave him 15 RBIs in that span. The Marlins were blanked for the second time this season and managed three hits off Locke to fall for the third time in the last four games and eighth time in the last 13 contests. Miami center fielder Marcell Ozuna went 0-for-3 in Monday’s game to snap an 11-game hitting streak and mark just the second time in May that he has gone without a hit.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, ROOT (Pittsburgh), FSN Florida (Miami)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Pirates RH Gerrit Cole (5-3, 2.53 ERA) vs. Marlins RH Jose Fernandez (7-2, 2.82)

Cole was held out of the decision against Arizona on Thursday despite belting a three-run homer and not allowing an earned run in five innings. The former No. 1 overall pick surrendered a total of one earned run in his last three turns but did not notch a strikeout against Colorado on May 20 and needed 106 pitches to get through five frames against the Diamondbacks. Cole is 2-1 with a 3.42 ERA in four career starts against Miami.

Fernandez earned the win in six straight starts while yielding a total of eight runs in that span. The Cuba native has been at his best in the last four outings with 43 strikeouts in 27 combined innings and three runs allowed. Fernandez, who owns 90 strikeouts in 60 2/3 total innings this season, is 1-0 in two career starts against Pittsburgh with 18 k’s in 13 frames.

WALK-OFFS

1. Pirates 2B Josh Harrison (illness) returned from a two-game absence and went 2-for-5 with two runs scored on Monday.

2. Miami RF Giancarlo Stanton (side) sat out his sixth straight game on Monday and is day-to-day.

3. Pittsburgh LF Starling Marte recorded multiple hits in four of the last seven contests.

Preview: White Sox at Mets

GAME: Chicago White Sox (27-25) at New York Mets (29-21)
DATE/TIME: Tuesday, May 31 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Citi Field, New York City, New York
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

A masterful pitching performance gave the New York Mets a win in the opener of their three-game series with the visiting Chicago White Sox. The Mets hope for more of the same Tuesday when they send Steven Matz to the mound in search of his eighth straight win.

Matz has given the Mets plenty of outstanding starts, and he’ll look to do so again on the heels of Matt Harvey’s gem in a 1-0 win in the series opener. The Mets snapped a two-game skid Monday but have won seven of their last 10. The White Sox have lost seven straight and four of the last five have been one-run defeats. Fifteen of Chicago’s last 18 games have been decided by two runs or fewer.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, CSN Chicago, SNY (New York)

PITCHING MATCHUP: White Sox RH Mat Latos (6-1, 4.06 ERA) vs. Mets LH Steven Matz (7-1, 2.36)

After rolling through his first four starts of the season, Latos has struggled. The 28-year-old turned the corner a bit last time out, holding Cleveland to three runs and five hits over six innings for his first quality start since April 24. Latos is 2-4 with a 2.87 ERA in 10 career starts against the Mets.

Matz, who turned 25 on Sunday, was tagged for seven runs in 1 2/3 innings in his season debut, but he has been dominant in seven starts since. His last outing might have been the best of the bunch, as he struck out seven and allowed four hits over eight scoreless innings at Washington for his seventh straight win. Matz has been outstanding in two previous interleague starts, allowing one run over 13 innings in a pair of wins.

WALK-OFFS

1. New York 3B David Wright has missed three straight games with a herniated disk but is hopeful of avoiding the disabled list.

2. Chicago’s Nos. 2-4 hitters – Jose Abreu, Melky Cabrera and Todd Frazier – are a combined 4-for-45 during the team’s current road trip.

3. Mets RHP Jeurys Familia has converted a franchise-record 33 consecutive save opportunities, including 17 this season.

Current Conditions - Atlanta

SUNNY 72 °F

5-Day Forecast GAME: San Francisco Giants (32-21) at Atlanta Braves (15-35)
DATE/TIME: Tuesday, May 31 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Turner Field, Atlanta, Georgia
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Mallex Smith is one of several young players the Atlanta Braves are counting on as they rebuild the franchise, and while the rookie outfielder has experienced some difficult times in his first 42 major-league games, he is developing a knack for clutch hits. Smith leads the Braves into the second game of a four-game home series Tuesday with the San Francisco Giants after his bases-clearing triple Monday sparked Atlanta to a series-opening 5-3 victory.

That hit raised Smith’s average to .407 with 17 RBIs in 27 at-bats with runners in scoring position, a sorely needed boost for an offense that is hitting .195 in May with runners in scoring position. The Giants look to re-ignite their offense after being limited to six hits Monday, which followed 18 runs on 33 hits in victory at Colorado on Saturday and Sunday. First baseman Brandon Belt homered Monday and has seven hits in his past 12 at-bats with three RBIs. Monday’s loss marked just the third in the past 18 games for San Francisco and only the third in its past 15 road contests.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, CSN Bay Area (San Francisco), FSN Southeast (Atlanta)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Giants RH Jake Peavy (1-5, 7.26 ERA) vs. Braves RH Matt Wisler (2-4, 3.08)

Peavy makes his 11th start of 2016 (Tuesday is his 35th birthday) and, after a rough start to the season, the 15-year veteran has pitched well in two of his past three appearances. He held San Diego to one run on six hits in 6 2/3 innings Wednesday in a no-decision, after allowing one run on three hits in six innings May 14 at Arizona. Peavy, who has allowed more than three earned runs in six of his first 10 starts, has a 3.44 ERA but an 0-2 record in three career starts in Atlanta.

Wisler took the loss Thursday against Milwaukee but pitched well for the fifth time in five May starts, allowing three runs on six hits in six innings with seven strikeouts – his third consecutive outing with seven whiffs. He is 2-2 with a 2.25 ERA this month, striking out 27 in 36 innings while holding opponents to a .212 batting average and a .586 OPS. The 23-year-old seeks his first victory at home this season, where he has posted a 4.18 ERA in five starts.

WALK-OFFS

1. San Francisco 3B Matt Duffy left Monday’s game in the sixth inning after being hit on the left hand with a pitch.

2. Atlanta starters have compiled a 2.82 ERA in the past 12 games.

3. Giants P Chris Stratton, San Francisco’s first-round pick in 2012, made his major-league debut Monday by striking out two hitters in a perfect eighth inning.

GAME: Los Angeles Dodgers (27-25) at Chicago Cubs (35-14)
DATE/TIME: Tuesday, May 31 - 8:05 PM EST
WHERE: Wrigley Field, Chicago, Illinois
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The last time Jake Arrieta faced the Los Angeles Dodgers, he threw his first career no-hitter. The reigning National League Cy Young Award winner would have to duplicate that feat Tuesday to top what the Chicago Cubs’ pitchers did to the visiting Dodgers in the opener of the three-game series.

The Cubs need a deep outing from Arrieta after burning through the bullpen Monday. Starter Jason Hammel left after two innings with cramping in his right hamstring before four relievers combined for seven perfect innings to complete a one-hitter in Chicago’s 2-0 victory. The Cubs have won six straight since a season-high three-game losing streak and they’ve allowed a total of five runs over the past four games. Monday’s loss was just the second in eight games for the Dodgers, who have allowed two or fewer runs in six of their last seven contests.

TV: 8:05 p.m. ET, ESPN, SportsNet Los Angeles, ABC 7 (Chicago)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Dodgers LH Scott Kazmir (4-3, 4.84 ERA) vs. Cubs RH Jake Arrieta (9-0, 1.72)

Kazmir has been wildly inconsistent with his command, as he struck out 12 in his last start after walking seven in his previous outing. The 32-year-old was excellent Wednesday against Cincinnati, allowing one run and four hits over six innings in addition to the 12 strikeouts to win his second straight decision. Kazmir is 1-0 with a 2.53 ERA in two starts against the Cubs, but he hasn’t faced them since 2010 with the Angels.

The Cubs have won Arrieta’s last 23 starts, tying the major-league record set by Atlanta’s Kris Medlen from 2010-12. Arrieta has won 20 straight decisions, including one Wednesday at St. Louis when he didn’t have his best stuff and allowed four runs and seven hits over five innings. Before his no-hitter at Los Angeles last season, Arrieta had struggled in two previous starts against the Dodgers, losing both in 2013.

WALK-OFFS

1. Cubs 2B/OF Ben Zobrist is 26-for-61 during a career-best 16-game hitting streak and has reached base in 35 consecutive starts.

2. Dodgers 2B Chase Utley is 0-for-10 with three strikeouts versus Arrieta.

3. Chicago RF Jason Heyward is 14-for-40 during a 10-game home hitting streak.

Current Conditions - Milwaukee

SUNNY 62 °F

DATE/TIME: Tuesday, May 31 - 8:10 PM EST
WHERE: Miller Park, Milwaukee, Wisconsin
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Pitching had been a trouble spot for the St. Louis Cardinals, but the rotation is starting to find a groove as the team continues a three-game series against the host Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday night. Another strong start paved the way for a 6-0 victory Monday as St. Louis improved to 3-2 on its seven-game road trip.

Mike Leake, who has been sensational since a rocky start to the season, will take the mound Tuesday against struggling Milwaukee right-hander Wily Peralta. Cardinals left fielder Matt Holliday homered among his three hits Monday and is 8-for-12 with a pair of blasts and four RBIs over the past three games. Brewers left field Ryan Braun has sat out two straight games due to an ailing neck and has missed nine of the past 15 games. It was only the second loss in seven games overall for Milwaukee, which has dropped four in a row to St. Louis at Miller Park.

TV: 8:10 p.m. ET, FSN Midwest (St. Louis), FSN Wisconsin (Milwaukee)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Cardinals RH Mike Leake (3-4, 3.90 ERA) vs. Brewers RH Wily Peralta (3-5, 6.62)

Even though he had his three-start winning streak halted, Leake is coming off another strong performance with seven innings of two-run ball at Washington. A pair of solo homers by the Nationals victimized Leake, who has surrendered four runs over 28 innings in his last four turns. Leake is 2-4 with a 4.72 ERA in 11 starts against the Brewers, including a no-decision on April 13 in which he allowed four runs and eight hits in six innings.

Peralta has managed to string together a pair of decent outings, which represents progress for a pitcher who has yet to go beyond six innings in any of his 10 starts. The 27-year-old Dominican picked up the victory at Atlanta last time out, giving up two runs over 5 1/3 innings, which followed 5 2/3 innings of three-run ball in a loss to the Mets. Matt Carpenter is 16-for-35 with three homers off Peralta, who is 4-9 with a 5.00 ERA against St. Louis.

WALK-OFFS

1. After going 1-for-10 in his first two games since coming off the paternity list, Carpenter had four hits and scored three runs Monday.

2. Brewers C Jonathan Lucroy is 7-for-14 with nine RBIs during a four-game hitting streak.

3. Cardinals CF Stephen Piscotty is expected back in the lineup Tuesday after missing Monday's game with a stomach bug.

DATE/TIME: Tuesday, May 31 - 8:15 PM EST
WHERE: Kauffman Stadium, Kansas City, Missouri

Eric Hosmer looks to continue an amazing five-game run when his Kansas City Royals host the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday in the middle contest of their three-game set. Hosmer has gone 11-for-21 with 12 RBIs during his hitting streak to raise his batting average 25 points to .323 and belted a three-run homer that capped a 6-2 victory in the series opener on Monday.

Paulo Orlando is riding a 13-game hitting streak after recording a double and a single Monday for the Royals, who have won 11 of their last 14 to take over first place in the American League Central. Kansas City goes after its 14th victory in its last 15 games against the Rays at home with Dillon Gee on the mound while Tampa Bay counters with Drew Smyly. The Rays have dropped eight of their last 10 contests overall to fall five games under .500 for the first time this season and managed two runs or fewer in their last four losses. Logan Morrison scored a run Monday and is 13-for-31 with seven RBIs over his last nine contests for Tampa Bay.

TV: 8:15 p.m. ET, FSN Sun (Tampa Bay), FSN Kansas City

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rays LH Drew Smyly (2-6, 3.92 ERA) vs. Royals RH Dillon Gee (1-2, 3.86)

Smyly has recorded just one victory in his last six starts and has given up eight homers in that span – two in the loss to Miami last time out. The 26-year-old Arkansas native completed at least seven innings three times in his first four starts this season but none in the last six outings. Jarrod Dyson is 3-for-7 versus Smyly, who is 4-1 with a 2.70 ERA in 13 career appearances (five starts) against the Royals.

Gee suffered through his worst of three consecutive starts last time out, allowing six runs (five earned) and 10 hits over four innings at Minnesota. The 30-year-old Texan yielded four runs in 10 1/3 innings over his first two starts following seven relief appearances and served up three homers on Wednesday. Corey Dickerson is 3-for-6 with a homer against Gee, who is 5-6 with a 4.10 ERA in interleague play.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Rays have belted 39 homers in 23 road games, which puts them on pace to threaten the major-league record of 138 set by San Francisco in 2001.

2. Dyson is 10-for-25 during his eight-game hitting streak and Royals rookie INF Whit Merrifield has hit safely in seven straight (12-for-32).

3. Tampa Bay committed three errors in the series opener and has recorded 11 miscues in its last seven games.... combined.

GAME: Cincinnati Reds (17-34) at Colorado Rockies (23-27)
DATE/TIME: Tuesday, May 31 - 8:40 PM EST
WHERE: Coors Field, Denver, Colorado
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Cincinnati Reds haven't experienced much joy on the road this season, but a visit to Coors Field quickly brightened the outlook. Cincinnati belted five home runs in an 11-8 series-opening victory over the Colorado Rockies and looks to continue the power display when the teams meet Tuesday for the second contest of their four-game set.

Adam Duvall posted his first two-homer performance in the major leagues and Joey Votto registered career blast No. 200 as the Reds racked up a season-high 17 hits while improving to 5-19 on the road. The victory was just the third in Cincinnati's last 18 overall games as the club flounders with the third-worst record in the majors. The Rockies have lost three consecutive contests as their pitching has been atrocious, giving up 29 runs and 50 hits during the skid. Colorado's Charlie Blackmon has been a bright spot as he has reached base in a career-best 25 consecutive games while batting .315 this month.

TV: 8:40 p.m. ET, FSN Ohio (Cincinnati), ROOT (Colorado)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Reds RH Jon Moscot (0-2, 4.02 ERA) vs. Rockies RH Jon Gray (2-2, 5.95)

Moscot will be activated from the disabled list prior to Tuesday's game after scattering four hits over six scoreless innings in his final rehab start at Triple-A Louisville. He has been sidelined since injuring his non-throwing shoulder during a start against the New York Mets on April 27, the same shoulder on which he had season-ending surgery last year. Moscot has limited opposing batters to a .224 average this campaign but has walked nine in only 15 2/3 innings.

Gray has allowed two runs or fewer in four of his last five starts but was torched for nine runs in 3 1/3 innings by St. Louis in the other outing. He defeated Boston in his last turn, when he gave up two runs and five hits in 7 1/3 frames. Gray is 1-0 with a 7.47 ERA in three starts at Coors Field this season and 1-1 with a 7.93 ERA in eight career home outings.

WALK-OFFS

1. Rockies 3B Nolan Arenado received his first day off this season in the opener but will be back in the lineup on Tuesday.

2. Duvall has recorded six homers and 13 RBIs over his last eight games.

3. Colorado RF Carlos Gonzalez has homered in three straight games and is 16-for-32 with four blasts over his last eight contests.
