Winning the war? Seriously. Define what the even means. There is no winning this war.
None of us here receive the daily intel briefs our presidents are privy to, so there is always much we can't know. Yet we've had 3 presidents over the past 17 years that, no matter how they felt campaigning, all decided to increase troop levels in Afghanistan.
Bush responded to 9/11 with an ultimatum to the Taliban to turn over OBL. They refused and we invaded. Should we have done nothing while OBL and his America hating allies planned 9/12?
Obama campaigned in 2008 that we needed to quickly leave Iraq in order to fight the 'real WOT' in Afghanistan. Then he left Iraq a hellhole and increased troop levels in Afg.
Trump campaigned (on little info) that we should be finished with Afg. As president he has more info and now he also has decided to increase our presence there.
All 3 presidents, all with differing mindsets and values, decided American troops needed to be in Afghanistan.
But let's assume instead we follow the BZ strategy and just get out now.
What do we do next?
BZ, how do you respond if Afghanistan returns to being a terror base for groups intent on targetting the US?
How will you feel when schools filled with 6-12 year old Afghani girls -- girls who sometimes cross bodies of water protected by American troops to get to a school -- are blown up day after day by the Taliban and AQ? Thousands of girls blown to bits. Because that is what will occur if we just leave now.
Finally, what message does it send to other American allies who we've promised, "America will not abandon you," when we just leave?
You say there is "no winning this war." Ok then, how does America win otherwise? What is the BZ Plan?
