Yes, DEWEY EVANS.....and yes, he was the top player on the Red Sox in the 80's.

We got a winner. Dewey Evans hit the first pitch of the first Red Sox game in 1986 for a home run. Not known as a leadoff hitter which makes the question that much tougher.

Because Dewey averaged around 110 walks a season in the 80's is why he was lead-off.

I think Mike Schmidt was the ONLY player to have more homeruns than Dewey in the decade of the 80's.

I just saw the question! I remember EVans leading off, and I think it was off of Morris...wasn`t it that wild opener they had , I think the game had quite a few runs too...He may have hit two that day ...
