Trent Richardson has been diagnosed with a right rib cartilage injury, and is day-to-day.

Richardson's injury is extremely painful, but it sounds like he'll be ready to suit up against the Colts. "Trent’s fine," said coach Pat Shurmur. "He has a right rib cartilage injury and he’s day to day." How effective he'll be is the question, but Week 7 opponent Indianapolis has been getting destroyed by the run. Richardson's status will be updated on Wednesday, where he'll likely either be limited or a no-show at Browns practice.

Trent Richardson (ribs) says he's pain-free, and expects to play against the Colts.

Richardson suited up for Wednesday's practice, but the Browns have yet to reveal his participation level. "In my mind I'm ready for Sunday," Richardson said. "I'll be ready to play whole game." Richardson plans to wear a flak jacket or extra padding, but it sounds like only a setback will hold him out at this point. Even at less than 100 percent, he'll be an RB1 against the Colts' leaky run defense.

Trent Richardson (ribs) was limited again in Thursday's practice.

Richardson insists he's pain-free, but will wear a bullet-proof flak jacket for extra protection against the Colts this week. Although Pat Shurmur noted that Montario Hardesty will be on standby if the injury becomes a factor, the coach still expects Richardson to take the bulk of the workload against a defense allowing the third-most fantasy points to opposing backs.

Trent Richardson is active for Week 7 against the Colts.

Richardson "might" lose a handful of carries to Montario Hardesty, but he's a legit RB1 play in such a favorable matchup. The Browns' Week 7 inactives are WR Mohamed Massaquoi, S Tashaun Gipson, CB Dimitri Patterson, TE Alex Smith, LB Scott Fujita, LG Jason Pinkston, and RB Brandon Jackson.

Coach Pat Shurmur confirmed Monday that the Browns will prepare Trent Richardson (ribs) to play in Week 8 against the Chargers.

Shurmur said the Browns will get Richardson ready to play each week moving forward, and see how his ribs feel from there. Richardson ran tentatively Sunday and was benched at halftime for ineffectiveness stemming from the injury. Richardson is going to be tough to bench in fantasy leagues going forward, but there will obviously be risk involved. He may not be 100 percent for a few more weeks.

ESPN's Ed Werder reported on SportsCenter Tuesday that the Browns are discussing shutting down Trent Richardson (ribs) through their Week 10 bye.

Werder termed Richardson's rib-cartilage injury "serious," and hinted it was aggravated on a "direct hit" in the second quarter of last week's loss to Indianapolis. "The team (is) now discussing whether to hold him out through the bye week to allow him to heal," Werder said. "The fear being that if they don't, he'll be debilitated by his injury all year long. There's internal conflict about shutting him down, though, because Pat Shurmur the coach has to win some games here. They've only got one victory and Jimmy Haslam the new owner says he wants a stronger finish if he's going to bring back the coaching staff."

Trent Richardson (ribs) insists he'll play Sunday, and that he has no plans of taking things easy until the Browns' Week 10 bye.

He was officially limited in Wednesday's practice. "I'm not gonna sit down. It's just never been in me to sit down," Richardson said. "I’m gonna go out there and see what I can do. If I can’t finish the game, (Montario Hardesty is) gonna be there." Richardson is on track to play against the Chargers, but at risk of being benched if he's again running tentatively, he'll be a dicey RB2.

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, Trent Richardson (ribs, questionable) is expected to play on Sunday against the Chargers.

Richardson put in limited practices throughout the week, but this was the thinking all along. San Diego sports the No. 2 run defense in the league, but it's still hard not to start Richardson in fantasy leagues. After getting benched by head coach Pat Shurmur in Week 7, Richardson and Shurmur agree that the rookie running back is ahead of where he was at this time last week.

Browns coach Pat Shurmur confirmed Monday that Trent Richardson (ribs) emerged from Sunday's win over the Chargers no worse for wear.

"With a running back, if he's going and the score is right, you feed him," Shurmur said of Richardson. The first-round pick appears to be over the hump in his rib recovery after a 134-total yard effort against San Diego. Richardson should be locked back in as Cleveland's every-down back for Week 9 against the Ravens.

Trent Richardson (ribs/chest) remained limited in Thursday's practice.

The Browns are managing their rookie back's reps coming off his 24-carry, 122-yard Week 8, but he'll be ready to roll against the Ravens' shaky run defense. Even at less than 100 percent, he's an RB1 for Week 9.

Trent Richardson (chest/ribs/finger) is listed as probable for Week 15.

The Browns said Richardson is also dealing with an illness, but none of the above are likely to affect his playing status for this Sunday's game against the Redskins. Richardson is still locked in as an RB1.
