Besides the obvious:

1. Paying winners
2. Having a good selection of stuff to bet on
3. Reliable phone/internet/customer service
4. A good track record

Then you start to measure other things:
10c v 20c bases, credit player or not, competency of clerks, overnights, limits, are the owners booking or gambling, etc
.

Point is that 3 is way too few to be considered as an elite 3.

Maybe 15 would fit my criteria of where your money is safe to play.

Yes, the number could exceed 15, and is probably closer to 20.

I took exception to Dante limiting the universe to 3, and he doesn't even bet with them

Joey was not limiting the universe to 3 ...I have bet with those 3 ..and bet with Pinny mainly now...I speak from experience, though not as great as your experience, and from my opinion

you know me well enough to know I would not post unless I had experienced them..I know im smalltime but those are my opinions imsure there are many more REAL solid books as you say

You noted 3 only in your response to the poster. How can you not say that you were not limiting your universe to only 3 stores.

Bases for example is the only game in town now. How could you put Oly in ahead of Hollywood, Cascade, Grande or others running a dime line?

Doesn't make sense....

ok Joey I see your point...maybe I should have rephrased it to say these 3 are the ones I have played at for a long time hence I think they are the best....at any rate I agree that there are alot of other books that are top notch....maybe I have not experienced them....

A top book should not be using a 15 or 20 cent line. These places are just trying to rip of the recreatoinal player. My personal opinion a top book should pay out quickly and there customer service should cater to the needs of the recreational player. The following in rank of order are the top books out there today.Pinnacle,Hollywood, Rio, Chris, Cascade,Grande,

jersey joe I agree, a good book, from a players perspective would not deal 20 cent lines. But hell lets face it, they are taking more players money, so they should have it to pay out "IF" you win!
