I mean just because you have a sub .500 football team as your state's "powerhouse" football program for the last 7 years or so doesn't mean you have to get all grumpy!

Nobody talking Vernon Adams huh?
Too much politics involved in the Heisman voting. I doubt if Adams would win the Heisman even if he was that good. Not with Mariotta winning it last year. Same team 2 years in a row by 2 different players at the same position? Can't see it..

There shouldn't be any "realistic" top 5 that includes a runningback, let alone #1 and #2. Not that I disagree that they aren't talents deserving of hardware, it's just the nature of the Heisman being a QB award. Today you can rush for 2500 yards and not even come close to winning the Heisman. 25 years ago that would have swept all voting regions.
You make an excellent point, RLR.
The odds of two rbs placing top 2 are slim.
last two rbs to do that were Bama back Mark Ingram
and stanford back Toby Gerhart in 09.
Before then, I couldn't tell you when or if it's happened.

However, I think one of those two backs has a monster season
and breaks the recent streak of qbs as heisman.
I should have made that my top 5 list of potential contenders
rather than top 5 finalists.

Based on the history of the award it will likely go to a QB who leads his team to national title contention or has a good season with stats that can't be overlooked. It's impossible to predict the next Johnny Football, but looking at teams in national title running who are led by a QB (I don't think Bama's QB will be on the radar since they are led by their running back by committee behind a huge O Line). The short list is OSU's starting QB, Boykin, Kessler, Zaire, Golson, Hill (BYU). That's a lazy answer but it's the truth of the matter. It would take an extremely unusual season for a non-QB to win.

Colt is about the only guy in this boat L15 years to get beat out by a non-QB and his 2009 stats were not all that impressive. Hell, he got beat out by 2 non-qb's....

Nah. Everybody's just listing the best player on their favorite team. Therxhomers.com lol.

Besides, the guy hasn't practiced with Oregon yet. One would have to be an idiot to consider him. Or a homer.

You guys amaze me. This is why the books make billions. Only like 2 guys in this thread are being unb iased and not talking about their local heros

Seen him play?

I'm not from Oregon or even like Oregon. He's very talented and a playmaker.

It's probably gained urban legend status amongst NU fans, but considering how close the 2009 race was (the closest to date) there are some people that think 4.5 sacks by Suh in the B12 title game did McCoy in, also how the game played out in the last few seconds, perhaps enough of the yet-to-vote midwest switched from Colt to Suh/Gerhardt/Ingram, enough to swing it. I think that speaks volumes on how hard it is for a qb not to win it that a once in a generation defensive player could have been the pivot.

Team guy...talking about value.

South Carolina's Pharoh Cooper.

Check him out ....maybe the most valuable player for his team in the nation.

Wouldn't it be something if Golson won it.
