dead on with the pistols comment....i need say no more than...vomit comin up has more melody than the pistols...i would add the ramones to the clash as far as the punk scene goes...the ramones debut in england is what kick started bands like the clash...and this is coming from a huge clash fan
the pistols were nothing more than what we would consider today as a boy band being put together by some middle aged dude out to make a buck....4 christ sake they were a vision of a fasion designer..do u need any more?...they suck...we just gave them more press in these few paragraphs than they desrve!

The Sex Pistols made one of the greatest records of all time. That being said, they fall short of having HOF credentials.
As mentioned, one of the criteria is that your first release had to be at least 25 years ago. Certainly Midnight Oil is a greater snub that just about any act listed by the article or by any poster.
One reason the RnR HOF is a joke is that there's too much influence from corporate assholes who's main focus is to turn a profit and that commercial appeal, popularity, and sales weigh far too heavily in determining who is deserving. Those things should have impact, but only minimal to moderate.
