They don't protect RB's with the ball, and they shouldn't with receivers in my opinion. Most of the guys protected are either blocking or are the QB, and they have to protect the most important position.
I still see o-lineman diving at d-linemans legs when the ball is snapped.
Like it or not, if the guy is running with the ball, taking their legs out is one way to make a tackle.

I agree that there are too many protected positions, and too many penalties on defensive players making (what used to be) good tackles... that said, yall could at least try to read the fucking text and comprehend what is being discussed before adding your two cents - especially when that two cents is a regurgitation of something already posted 8 fucking times.
