TMZ is reporting that the helicopter flew in very foggy conditions so much so that LAPD air support was grounded. The helicopter circled the LA Zoo at least 6 times at 875 feet waiting for the fog to clear but the alternative was maybe the children wanted to see the zoo from the air. TMZ didn't mention that. In any event after the helicopter flew around 101 freeway it went south toward a mountainous area and flew into the mountain at 1700 feet flying at 161 knots. Unless they can prove mechanical problems it appears to me that the crash was caused by low visibility and pilot disorientation.
