PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. — A few fans cheered when Matt Kuchar missed a 20-footer for birdie on the par-4 12th hole during his opening round of the Genesis Open at Riviera Country Club on Friday.

Then one yelled, “Go Kooch! Don’t worry, I always root for the villain.”

On Riviera’s famed par-3 sixth, another let rip, “Go low, Kooch, go low! Just not on the gratuity!”

After teeing off on 10, a guy pounced on the opportunity of silence, shouting “El Tucan, Kooch! Pay the caddie!” :missingte

Some were less polite. “F—k that guy,” said a middle-aged man of Kuchar. “What [Kuchar] did was wrong, REALLY wrong,” added an older gentleman, throwing in that he’s no longer a fan of the nine-time PGA Tour winner. All around the Riv there were more than a few sarcastic calls of “Mooch!” from the gallery.

My opinion before this was that Kuchar was a good guy. Now I will never root for him again.

Most of the caddies get paid something and then if the player does well they get paid a bonus.

Tiger wouldnt pay a percentage but his caddies supposedly were well paid. His was not the norm on the tour.

The reality is this. The guy was some local caddie and making $3,000 or $5,000 or whatever the base amount was a big pay day for him. Where Kuchar went wrong is not giving the guy $50k after making over a million bucks. That $50k would have had a much bigger effect on that guys life than and extra $50k would for Kuchar. To make matters worse he tried to defend what he paid him with a comment that it was a good pay day for the week for the guy.

I hope the crowds ride his ass and chant Cheap Cheap Cheap ....instead of an endearing Kuuuuuuuuch. Karma can be a bitch. He is not going to like hearing the negative comments.

I agree NStar, some people just don't get it and are disconnected .... just give the guy a reasonable amount, so you weigh the risk versus reward scenario. So give the guy 50k for example it's good karma after a big win, good press ...etc.... lots of stuff would be written about a feel good story after a big win. So even if your a cheap ass think about with all the good press you probably get it back and even more in exposure and future endorsements. Sponsors would gravitate to a story like this after a big win. Lots of positive thoughts moving forward.

So now you getting terrible press, your big win is tarnished, you will get heckled and treated crappy periodically ...etc.... all for 40-50k makes no sense to put up all the BS and grief, I blame his management team or people close to him partially because someone should be weighing the pros and cons with him through these events. Lots of negative thoughts moving forward.

blame his management team or people close to him? what?....cmon, he's an adult. He's 40 yrs old. Responsible for his actions. He doubled down, remember? He's just a cheap fuck, some folks are wired that way. No biggie

final round at iconic Riviera!!!!!! (they play 3rd and 4th rounds today)

This course favors chaps who play a right to left ball flight, as noted by such past champions as F Couples, C Pavin, Stadler, Mayfair,B Watson, D Johnson..........Tiger has never won here, starts his 3rd round; birdie-eagle-birdie-birdie..lol.

A Scott in contention!! a former champion, has been MIA the last few years, but 2019 has been good so far, is he back?

haha, should't have put Bubba on that list as he hits it from the other side. Of course he can move it both ways, but his default is the fade. Speaking of Bubba, if someone were to ask you; which golfer is a natural? Fred Couples and Bubba Watson for me. FEEL players. Bubba is an outlier- there really is no one like him on tour (closest i'd say is Phil) He can move 10 yards, 20 yards , 30 yards in either direction......at will. His finishing position VARIES, its like no two swings are alike, but rather the consequence of the shot he has pictured in his mind. Incredible

but of the two players, Couples and Watson, which swing would you prefer? For me Watson, all day long. His swing is way way easier on the body, less risk of knee, back injuries. NO restriction of the lower body on the takeaway, ala Sneed, a yuong Nicklaus-- pause it at :22 sec mark; LOVE IT!!!!! lead knee moves back, de-weights the front foot.

what is really wild ? how vertical he takes the clubhead back, look how high his hands are at the top of the swing!!!! are u fucking kidding me!!!

ya did Kuchar? which was cringeworthy?....this one?

“For a guy who makes $200 a day, a $5,000 week is a really big week,” he said.

Kuchar may be the guy that has a $20.5 mill portfolio..but would rather have it at $20.55.....then $21 mill just to be safe.................so why be overly generous to some Mexican, as we had an agreement? the guy was just carrying the bag? ...
so what you're saying is...maybe they are right about ''whitey'' always screwing them over??

an amazing fun fact wrt to Bubba's tools is his choice of grip. Bubba hates to lose it right, HATES it. So he makes the hands less of an issue by using a larger grip esp on the lower hand. This is crazy laughable as his hand-work through the ball is fuckin off the charts; uses a midsize grip with 10 wraps (DOUBLE-SIDED) on the top half and 12 on the lower half

is there any better sport in the world than golf?...other than hockey , of course,..................its a disease
