Beanie Wells - RB - Cardinals According to John Czarnecki of FOXSports, Beanie Wells (knee) will start Sunday in Week 9 as the Cardinals take on the Vikings.
Though this is just Czarnecki's speculation, there's little reason to think Beanie won't start. The Vikings haven't been as stout against the run as in years past, but Wells has struggled of late and is no more than a low-end RB2 for Week 9. November 7 - 8:16 a.m. ET

This looks like a setback, as Wells was "limited" in practice each day last week before seeing just one carry (for a loss of two) at Minnesota. Wells is averaging 3.3 yards per carry this season and doesn't seem to be anywhere near to 100 percent. It might not be a bad idea for the Cardinals to shut him down for a few weeks. Wells doesn't appear at all likely to help them.

</TD></TR><TR><TD class=vaLink>This wouldn't be the case if Beanie Wells (knee, questionable) was healthy, at least according to the Cardinals' depth chart. Wells, though, can't seem to get over the hump with his swollen knee. Hightower started in Week 9 and managed just 39 yards on 13 carries. He has a more favorable matchup against Seattle this week, but offers very little upside as a flex or RB2.

Even if Wells is active, he's a strong bet to play a deep reserve role once again. Wells had just one carry last week, playing behind both Tim Hightower and LaRod Stephens-Howling.

</TD></TR><TR><TD class=vaLink>At his Monday press conference, coach Ken Whisenhunt characterized Wells' Week 10 inactivity as a "let-him-get-over-the-hump thing." Wells won't be a recommended fantasy play until he shows in game action that he's 100 percent, but Tim Hightower has done nothing to run with the feature back job. Hightower is averaging under 3.0 yards per carry dating back to Week 7.

After taking Week 10 off to rest his surgically repaired knee, Wells plans to practice fully and play at Kansas City Sunday. Backups LaRod Stephens-Howling (hamstring) and Jason Wright (concussion) are both questionable this week, so the Cardinals will need Wells to play alongside Tim Hightower. We'd recommend giving Beanie at least a week to prove himself reliable before plugging him into fantasy lineups.

Wells won't be a fantasy option until he shows he's healthy and still has a big role, but he's at least progressing. There's an outside chance that Wells could flirt with RB2 value in non-PPR leagues by Week 13. He faces the Rams, Broncos, Panthers, and Cowboys consecutively from that point on, and of those teams only St. Louis ranks better than 23rd against the run.

Wells was limited again Thursday, one day after insisting that his knee feels better now than it has since early September. Hightower has failed to take advantage of Wells' recent absence, so Whiz could turn back to Beanie immediately if he makes it through the week without a setback. Neither back is worthy of a fantasy start in Week 11.

</TD></TR><TR><TD class=vaLink>It remains to be seen if Wells will start and how much he will play. We would be very scared to rely on him in fantasy considering how the Cardinals have used him lately. Owners are better off taking a "wait and see approach," even with running backs LaRod Stephens-Howling and Jason Wright inactive. Other Cardinals inactives: Third QB John Skelton, C Ben Claxton, LB Clark Haggans, LB Cyril Obiozor, LB Reggie Walker and CB Greg Toler.

</TD></TR><TR><TD class=vaLink>Whiz thought both Beanie Wells and Tim Hightower "looked good," which may not sound like much but is a step in the right direction. Wells emerged from the game healthy and performed well, though he played behind Hightower. The more trust Wells can build, the closer he can get to fantasy lineups. The Cards face the woeful run defenses of Denver, Carolina, and Dallas in Weeks 14-16.

Beanie should be fine to play in Week 15, but he's taken a clear backseat to Tim Hightower and isn't usable in fantasy leagues right now.
