The Minnesota Twins own the worst record in the major leagues, but they have the great fortune to be facing an opponent that's currently in even more dire straits. The Twins go for their third series sweep of the season against visiting Philadelphia on Thursday afternoon and look to hand the sliding Phillies their 10th consecutive loss.
Minnesota erupted for a season-best run total in Tuesday's 14-10 victory before rallying from a three-run deficit to squeeze out a 6-5 win the following night. Trevor Plouffe is 5-for-9 with a double, a triple, three RBIs and four runs scored in the series for the Twins, who have scored 27 times during their three-game winning streak. Andres Blanco went 3-for-4 with a homer and two RBIs Wednesday for the Phillies, who have dropped 26 of their last 32 contests. Jerad Eickhoff attempts to end the team's longest losing streak since 1999 when he opposes Minnesota's Ricky Nolasco in the series finale.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Phillies RH Jerad Eickhoff (4-9, 3.49 ERA) vs. Twins RH Ricky Nolasco (3-4, 4.91)
Eickhoff was victimized by the long ball versus Arizona on Saturday, giving up a pair of homers among nine hits and winding up charged with three runs over 5 2/3 innings in a 4-1 setback. The 25-year-old was outstanding in winning his previous two starts, giving up totals of one run and five hits while striking out 13 in as many frames. Eickhoff has labored away from home, posting a 1-5 record and 5.23 ERA in six road starts.
Nolasco is coming off a strong outing versus the New York Yankees but had to settle for a no-decision despite allowing two runs and eight hits over seven innings. It was the 33-year-old's fourth quality start in the last five turns - a stretch that followed an ugly six-start winless streak in which he yielded 30 runs. Nolasco saw plenty of the Phillies from his National League days, posting an 8-6 record and 3.75 ERA against them.
WALK-OFFS
1. Twins SS Eduardo Escobar is riding five-game hitting, RBI and run-scoring streaks.
2. Phillies 1B Ryan Howard recorded an RBI single Wednesday to snap an 0-for-17 slump.
3. Minnesota RHP Fernando Abad, who is in his seventh season, earned his first career save Wednesday.
