RACE #3 - BELMONT PARK - 2:22 PM EASTERN POST

8½ FURLONGS DIRT FILLIES AND MARES THREE YEARS OLD AND UPWARD MAIDEN SPECIAL WEIGHT $75,000.00 PURSE

#1 REGIA MARINA / #1A DELAY OF GAME
#3 TIGER MOTH
#5 MAJESTIC EMPIRE
#2 CLEARY CHEATING

#1 REGIA MARINA takes a significant class drop (-15) this afternoon, and is the overall speed leader in this maiden field racing at, or about, 8½ furlongs on the dirt, and has produced "POWER RUN PERFORMANCES in both of her two career starts to date, including a "POWER RUN SHOW FINISH" facing better company in her last start. Her stablemate, #1A DELAY OF GAME comes off a "POWER RUN PLACE" finish in her last start, which was her "first asking" to begin her career. #3 TIGER MOTH scored with a "POWER RUN SHOW" finish in her respective "first asking," missing her "diploma" by less than a length. She is out of the Street Sense lineage, whose progeny have hit the board in 43% of more than 2,600 combined lifetime starts. For your information folks, Street Sense also qualifies for my Three Star Sire list ... if you would like a description of the rigid rules that I "employ" to make this list, kindly send me an email ... and yes ... this list, and the "rules" are indeed free!

MEET STATS: 93 - 292 / $536.60 BEST BETS: 12 - 26 / $42.50

SPOT PLAYS: 4 - 24 / $40.80

Best Bet: INVEST ON ART (4th)

Spot Play: CINCINATTI MISS (3rd)

Race 1

(7) PISCEAN trotted a winning race last out but was just beaten by one who kept coming at him first-over as the pace accelerated; top call here. On paper it looks like the only one he needs to worry about is (8) THE SPRINTER who is the first foal to race from a good race mare who won 27 of her 107 starts and hit the board more than 60% of the time. This one looks ready. (9) P L INTIMIDATOR has raced evenly twice and may be ready to show some improvement.

Race 2

(6) AUTHENDICK showed enough in her lone qualifier to suggest she is ready to win early; top call. (2) OK HEARTBEAT also looks ready and appears to be much faster than she was last year as a 2YO. (3) WHOSLUCKIERTHANME exits a rapid qualifier in which she managed to beat a couple and may be faster than she showed there.

Race 3

(6) CINCINATTI MISS showed more in her May 22 qualifier than she did in any of her four starts last year. Trainer McIntosh may have found the key to this filly; top call. (5) LMC MARSHMELLOW had good speed both early and late last out and is getting closer. (3) BOONDOCK comes in off two blowout wins at London but will need more late speed to hold on here.

Race 4

(7) INVEST IN ART qualified faster than any of these have been racing and looks much faster this year; top call in his 3YO debut. (2) ARTIAWITCHTOYOU showed promise on limited action last year and also qualified quickly while showing nice late speed; contender. (3) BETTOR OUT WEST raced well in his first test on the big circuit, narrowly losing to a logical winner. He's another to consider here.

Race 5

(3) ONE TO DRAW TO tried to go down the road in his debut and tired late, likely due to going too fast in the third 1/4. He still dropped almost 10 seconds off his lone qualifier and looks formidable here. (7) ARTFUL WAY went a big trip in the City of London elim and is getting closer to that elusive first win. (4) SKY GUY also raced well over London and gets a big driver switch from when he was last seen here at Mohawk.

Race 6

(6) HOPE FOR BADLANDS did well last time to be third behind two class-droppers. Lukewarm call on top in a head scratcher. (1) MACH IT BIG is a 9-time winner in his last 30 starts which in itself looks pretty good vs. this weak group. He may trip out here from the inside. (7) ARI ALLSTAR can get a chunk of this if he leaves a bit better than he has been.

Race 7

(7) THE SPY put up a good fight against a very good colt who was the prohibitive favorite last time. He meets a group he should beat here. (10) ROCKIN IN HEAVEN went a brave first-over trip to win his WEG debut. Henry should get a good spot early from which to launch an assault; contender. (1) P L IDAHO missed some time then lost all hope when funky-gaited near the 3/4 pole. Those could be two very bad signs.

Race 8

(5) MAJESTIC VIEW left hard, took a shuffle, then closed six lengths on the winner in the stretch. He meets a pretty weak group and could trip out in the pocket behind (8) HAVA KADABRA, who is undoubtedly pointing to front off the claim and two down-the-road wins in a row. (10) UTOPIA is the wild card dropping back to a class where he can compete and a regular cycle.

Race 9

(1) A LOT OF SENSE took a ton of support at the windows last week but was too far back early to get involved at the finish. With the move inside she can make amends here. (2) HA JUNG ships in off some quick miles over Northville and adds Lasix; the one to chase down (10) DELIRIUM has been improving and can get a share here.

Race 10

(3) UNIQUE BARAN was an easy winner first time off the claim for trainer Stewart and looks good to repeat vs. these. (5) ICARE DE CHAFRA went a big mile over Trois Rivieres last out and ships in to shoot for a bigger purse while sharp. (4) BETTOR AGAIN was winning in 1:51 1/5 last October now is priced to sell here. That's a red flag for us but many will bet him off perceived “back class”.

Race 11

(9) EXHILARATED went a big first-up trip to just miss when claimed by trainer Auciello. Look for Drury to leave with this one at least hard enough to get position early. Top call at a square price (8) ONE LAST BONO, a virtual win machine, goes first off the claim here but has missed 4 weeks; mixed signals. (1) KIKISKISSINKOUSIN likely gets her preferred pocket trip here and is dangerous. (2) ALL CHOCOLATE went a big trip last time and may get enough early pace to set up her late charge. (5) JET HOT STUFF has upset potential making her second start following a break.

DRF HARNESS

MEET STATS: 26 - 71 / $119.60 BEST BETS: 3 - 6 / $12.20

Best Bet: DONT FOOL WITH ME (3rd)

Spot Play: NUTMEGS DESIRE (4th)

Race 1

(5) DENYITTOTHEEND was on quite a roll the last time she was in the Richard Banca barn and she is also coming off a win. (3) IDEAL A LITTLE came up flat from an outside post after missing a few weeks. She can do better. (6) ALWAYS LOVE ME has been very consistent when it comes to hitting the board.

Race 2

(2) MEADOWVIEW ARNY has a win with this amateur driver in the bike, which is always a good thing. Seven-year-old should get around the rail horse and secure no worse than a pocket trip. (5) REV IT NOW has been having a strong year with Hannah Miller in the bike. Unfortunately she is usually overbet due to her success. (4) STARSABOVEALLERAGE has some early speed and finds the right spot to put it to good use.

Race 3

(4) DON’T FOOL WITH ME has posted consecutive victories since the claim and seems likely to go down the road again. (1) SPEEDACIOUS & (2) DANISHDUJOUR are both coming off solid second place finishes and hail from strong barns.

Race 4

(3) NUTMEGS DESIRE has stepped up in the right spots this year. I can see her firing off the gate and taking the bull by the horns at a decent price. (1) H-ANDHARLEYTHEJET draws inside and is likely to find early speed. (2) PUTNAMS GLORY is the sharpest horse in the race, but has developed a case of seconditis.

Race 5

(5) TIDEWATER TOMAHAWK finds a blank field and might be able to dart off the gate and back down the pace. (4) NORTHERN BREAKOUT has been keeping up in some fast miles for the condition. This race should be slower. (7) FLYING INSTRUCTOR closed well from a tough spot; threat if she shows early speed.

Race 6

(1) REAL MARRIAGE finally draws well and seems likely to get aggressive. (4) BAZILLION drops back down to the level of the claim and should feel more comfortable now. (3) FREE LOVE changes barns and drops down; turnaround possible.

Race 7

(3) CLIMATE HANOVER moves into another high percentage barn and looks like a major player in a race with many contenders. (1) GINGER SPICE N could be the best value of the group and the inside draw will likely result in early speed. (4) FIRSTCLASSFLIGHT has won two straight. (2) MY SPRING FLING could be very dangerous if able to get around #1; contender regardless.

Race 8

(7) UPFRONTWHOSURLADY has lost her form but could easily wake up and gun down the road for new connections. (1) BAHAMA BLUE should get away close and have every shot. (3) CAM FUNNY has some recent form but steps up a level.

Race 9

(7) HARE CRAFT has consistently performed well at this level and Jason Bartlett choose this guy over a couple of others, including a Bamond barn entrant. (5) SOUTHWESTERN DREAM is a veteran that usually races well at this level. (1) CRIMSON CRUISER draws better. He is not as bad as his last two races appear.

Race 10

(1) TYE SEELSTER blew away lesser in his first start for Banca and figures to come away with no worse than a pocket trip in this spot. (4) AUTOMATIC SLIMS has won two straight versus similar and is impossible to leave off your tickets. (2) GAVINS DESIGNER should save ground and could get lucky with clear sailing.

Race 11

(4) BREATHTAKING went too fast on the engine last time and can make amends. (1) I DO IT MYSELF can stay close from the pylons and maybe even get up with the right stretch room. (3) ROBIN CRUISER has speed. Will she be leaving while slightly up in class?

MLB Preview: Indians (20-24) at Mariners (21-23)

Game: 1
Venue: Safeco Field
Date: May 28, 2015 10:10 PM EDT

In his past three outings, Corey Kluber has delivered the results expected from last year's AL Cy Young Award winner.

The Seattle Mariners' James Paxton has been effective for an even longer stretch and will try to outduel Kluber in Thursday night's series opener against the Cleveland Indians.

Kluber hardly resembled the AL's top pitcher a few weeks ago, having lost four straight starts with a 7.43 ERA as opposing batters hit .373 against him. He's since gone 2-0 with a 0.72 ERA in three games while pitching at least eight innings in each.

Kluber (2-5, 3.49 ERA) yielded one run in eight innings Saturday in a 2-1 win over Cincinnati while fanning seven, giving him 37 strikeouts in his last 25 innings. He leads the AL with 83 strikeouts.

"You don't dominate the entire league the way he did last year without being able to have some good starts coming up the next year," second baseman Jason Kipnis said. "The guy's stuff is fantastic ... He does all the little things. The guy knows how to pitch."

Paxton (3-2, 3.52) also has turned things around after a rough stretch. He was 0-2 with 6.86 ERA in his first four outings but has a 1.59 ERA in his last five and has won three straight. The only runs he's allowed during that win streak were the two he surrendered in six innings of Saturday's 3-2 victory in Toronto.

"This guy is special," manager Lloyd McClendon told MLB's official website.

Paxton hasn't allowed a run in his last two home starts, spanning 14 innings. Kluber is 0-3 in five road starts, getting six runs of support, after giving one run and fanning 12 in nine innings of a 2-1, 10-inning loss to the Chicago White Sox on May 18.

Kluber, who will make his first appearance in Seattle, registered a three-hitter with eight strikeouts in his only start against the Mariners, a 2-0 win July 30. In his first matchup with Cleveland, Paxton will face a team that's coming off one of its best performances at the plate in 2015.

The Indians (21-25) totaled 17 hits in a 12-3 rout of Texas on Wednesday to avoid a three-game sweep. They were batting .223 overall and .143 with runners in scoring position in their prior 10 games.

Carlos Santana hit a three-run homer in an eight-run third inning while Lonnie Chisenhall and Michael Bourn combined for six hits and five RBIs.

"These games don't happen all the time, but when they do happen, it feels good," Bourn said. "We came out, and we were aggressive, and we got on the board early."

Kipnis was a home run shy of the cycle and is batting .447 in May, but he's hit .143 in these teams' last three series as the Mariners won two of three in all of them. Cleveland has lost seven of its last nine games in Seattle.

The Mariners (23-23) will seek to match their longest win streak of the season at four games and move above .500 for the first time since they were 1-0. They completed a three-game sweep in Tampa Bay on Wednesday with a 3-0 victory.

Nelson Cruz drove in all of those runs with his home run in the ninth, his AL-best 18th longball. He's 4 for 13 with one home run and two doubles against Kluber, while the other eight Mariners hitters who have faced him are a combined 8 for 47.

Kluber could benefit from having his regular catcher back behind the plate. Yan Gomes had missed six weeks with a sprained MCL before returning Sunday.

Seattle's Kyle Seager, who had reached base in a career-high 21 consecutive games before failing to reach Wednesday, owns a .394 batting average in 25 games against the Indians.

MLB roundup: A-Rod moves past Gehrig in RBIs
By THE SPORTS XCHANGE

NEW YORK -- Alex Rodriguez moved past Hall of Famer Lou Gehrig into third place on the all-time RBI list with a three-run homer in the bottom of the third inning and the New York Yankees completed a three-game sweep of the Kansas City Royals with a 4-2 victory Wednesday.

Rodriguez entered Wednesday tied with Babe Ruth for second on the all-time RBI list after reaching 1,992 RBIs with a seventh-inning single in Friday's loss to the Texas Rangers. Rodriguez drove a 0-1 slider from Chris Young (4-1) over the left field wall that moved him past Gehrig and gave him 1,995 RBIs.

It also was Rodriguez's 665th home run and 2,880th hit, putting Rodriguez 20 shy of joining Derek Jeter as the only Yankees to reach 3,000 hits. Rodriguez added his 2,881st hit with a single in the seventh and finished the game one behind Barry Bonds, who is well behind Hank Aaron (2,297).

Michael Pineda (6-2) bounced back from two sub-par outings and allowed one run and six hits in 6 2/3 innings.

Tigers 3, A's 2

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Yoenis Cespedes hit a three-run homer in the fifth inning to power Detroit over Oakland.

Cespedes played his first two-plus major-league seasons for the A's before being traded to Boston on July 31. He lined right-hander Dan Otero's 2-2 pitch over the left-field fence with two outs, giving Detroit a 3-0 lead.

A's starter Scott Kazmir threw three shutout innings and held the Tigers hitless but left the game because of tightness in his left shoulder. Kazmir, who made the American League All-Star team last season, struck out four, walked three and threw 47 pitches.

Orioles 5, Astros 4

BALTIMORE -- Chris Davis hit a tiebreaking solo homer with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning, his second home run of the game, that lifted Baltimore over Houston.

Astros manager A.J. Hinch brought in left-hander Tony Sipp to face Davis, but the move backfired as he homered on the first pitch to snap a 4-4 tie. Davis also hit a two-run homer off Collin McHugh in the fourth. He has 10 homers and 26 RBIs this season.

The Astros tied the score with a three-run seventh against Orioles starter Ubaldo Jimenez. Evan Gattis hit a two-run homer to left center, tying the score at 4.

Giants 3, Brewers 1

MILWAUKEE -- Joe Panik hit a two-run homer and Ryan Vogelsong matched a season high with five strikeouts as San Francisco completed a three-game sweep of Milwaukee.

Panik collected two hits and erased a 1-0 Milwaukee lead in the fifth inning when he homered off Mike Fiers, who was starting on short rest in place of Wily Peralta and struck out six in his five-inning stint, allowing eight hits without a walk.

Vogelsong gave up five hits and didn't walk a batter to win his third consecutive road start. He improved to 4-0 with a 1.13 ERA in five May starts after beginning the season 0-2.

Mets 7, Phillies 0

NEW YORK -- Rookie right-hander Noah Syndergaard did it all in his fourth major league start, throwing 7 1/3 shutout innings and delivering three hits, including a long homer, in New York's win over Philadelphia.

The Mets scored once in the first inning, three times in the third and once apiece in the fourth, fifth and sixth in sweeping a three-game series from the Phillies at Citi Field for the second time this season.

Syndergaard (2-2) allowed six hits and walked none while striking out six in pitching beyond the sixth inning for the first time as a big-leaguer. He allowed just two runners to get into scoring position.

Indians 12, Rangers 3

CLEVELAND -- Cleveland belted three home runs, including a three-run shot by Carlos Santana in an eight-run third inning, to roll over Texas.

The win snapped Texas' seven-game winning streak. It was the last day of a road trip for Texas and the last day of a 4-2 homestand for the Indians, who pounded out 17 hits, including home runs by Santana, Nick Swisher and Lonnie Chisenhall.

Right-hander Carlos Carrasco (6-4) pitched eight innings to get the win. He gave up one run on five hits, with eight strikeouts and one walk.

Twins 6, Red Sox 4

MINNEAPOLIS -- Aaron Hicks and Eddie Rosario homered and right-hander Phil Hughes pitched 6 2/3 innings to help Minnesota beat Boston.

The Twins got their first sweep of Boston in nearly a decade, when they took three from the Red Sox in June of 2006 at the Metrodome. It was also the Twins' fifth consecutive win overall and seventh in their last eight games.

Dustin Pedroia homered twice for the Red Sox, who had lost just four times total in five previous series at Target Field since 2010. It was Pedroia's second multi-homer game of the season and first since Opening Day.

Mariners 3, Rays 0

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- For eight innings, Tampa Bay's Chris Archer and Seattle's Felix Hernandez threw shutout gems, taking a scoreless stalemate into the ninth.

Then the Rays went to the bullpen, and reliever Brad Boxberger gave up a three-run homer to Nelson Cruz as the Mariners won to sweep the three-game series.

Hernandez (8-1) pitched a four-hitter for his second complete-game shutout of the season and earned his first win at Tropicana Field. He struck out eight and walked one. Archer allowed only two hits, walked none and struck out 12, matching a career high.

Rockies 6, Reds 4

CINCINNATI -- Nolan Arenado and Charlie Blackmon homered, and right-hander Kyle Kendrick pitched seven strong innings, lifting Colorado over Cincinnati in the finale of a three-game series.

Todd Frazier and Tucker Barnhart homered for the Reds, who have lost 10 of 11. The Reds halted a nine-game losing streak on Tuesday, their longest since 1998.

Kendrick (2-6) allowed one run through seven innings before giving up three earned in the eighth as the Rockies took the series. He walked one and struck out one over just 75 pitches.

Pirates 5, Marlins 2

PITTSBURGH -- Jung Ho Kang's two-run single capped a five-run rally in the seventh inning as Pittsburgh ran its winning streak to a season-high six games.

The Pirates trailed 2-0 with two outs and none on in the seventh when Chris Stewart and pinch hitter Jose Tabata hit consecutive singles off left-handed reliever Mike Dunn to put runners on the corners.

Right-hander Sam Dyson (2-2) relieved and gave up back-to-back RBI singles to Josh Harrison and pinch hitter Pedro Alvarez that tied the score. Dyson then walked Andrew McCutchen and Starling Marte to force in the go-ahead run and Kang greeted righty Carter Capps with his two-run single to center to extend his hitting streak to nine games.

White Sox 5, Blue Jays 3

TORONTO -- Adam LaRoche drove in the go-ahead run in the 10th inning and Chicago snapped a four-game losing streak.

Jose Abreu led off the 10th with a triple to right field against Blue Jays right-hander Roberto Osuna (1-1) and LaRoche singled to right to give Chicago a 4-3 lead. Gordon Beckham doubled home pinch-runner Emilio Bonifacio as the White Sox ended the Blue Jays' three-game winning streak.

Right-hander David Robertson (4-1), who gave up the tying homer to Josh Donaldson in the ninth, picked up the win.

Cardinals 4, Diamondbacks 3

ST. LOUIS -- Peter Bourjos' hard but clean slide into home plate forced a throwing error from catcher Jordan Pacheco in the bottom of the ninth, scoring Matt Carpenter with St. Louis' winning run.

With the bases loaded and one out, Jhonny Peralta bounced the first pitch to third baseman Yasmany Tomas. The throw home forced Bourjos, but Bourjos knocked Pacheco's legs out from under him, and Pacheco's throw to first sailed down the right field line as Carpenter trotted home.

Jason Heyward led off the ninth with a 423-foot, game-tying solo homer off closer Brad Ziegler that curved inside the right field foul pole, Heyward's fifth of the year.

Nationals 3, Cubs 0

CHICAGO -- Bryce Harper hit his 18th home run, and Max Scherzer struck out a season-high 13 in seven scoreless innings as Washington beat Chicago.

Scherzer (6-3) scattered five hits walked just one as he won his fifth straight start while the Nationals took two of three from the Cubs. Drew Storen worked the ninth inning for his 16th save.

Harper slammed a leadoff home run in the sixth inning off Jon Lester as the Nationals opened a 2-0 lead. He is tied with Seattle's Nelson Cruz for the major league lead in homers.

Padres 5, Angels 4

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Andrew Cashner gave up three runs in seven innings and got key hits from Justin Upton and Matt Kemp as San Diego beat Los Angeles.

Angels starter Garrett Richards was his own worst enemy, committing two errors, including one while fielding a bunt in the seventh inning that led to two unearned runs. That was when Upton and Kemp came through with back-to-back, two-out, RBI singles that turned a 3-3 game into a 5-3 Padres lead. Those hits also knocked Richards out of the game.

Richards (4-3) got the loss after giving up five runs (three earned) in 6 2/3 innings.

Braves 3, Dodgers 2

LOS ANGELES -- Cameron Maybin homered, and Atlanta avoided a three-game sweep by holding off Los Angeles.

Braves starter Alex Wood (3-2) limited the Dodgers to a run for seven innings, striking out six, walking two and scattering seven hits. Jim Johnson pitched a perfect eighth, fanning two batters, before Jason Grilli survived a rocky ninth for his 14th save.

Grilli served up a solo home run to left fielder Alex Guerrero, his ninth this season, and a single to pinch hitter Andre Ethier before forcing Ethier at second and inducing pinch hitter Alberto Callaspo, who made his Dodger debut, to fly out to center.

Stingy defense the hallmark of Pirates winning streak

The Pittsburgh Pirates picked up their sixth consecutive win Wednesday and will look to add to that Thursday. During their hot streak the Bucs have been dominating teams as they have only allowed nine runs.

The Pirates have a +26 scoring margin during their streak, while they have won each contest by at least two runs.

The Pirates travel to San Diego Thursday.

A's Kazmir exits game with tight shoulder
The Sports Xchange

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Oakland Athletics left-hander Scott Kazmir left Wednesday's game against the Detroit Tigers after the third inning because of left shoulder tightness.

Kazmir allowed no hits, struck out four and walked three. He threw 47 pitches, including 28 for strikes. He walked three in the second inning but pitched a perfect third.

Kazmir is 2-3 with a 2.93 ERA this season. Last year, he made the American League All-Star team and finished with a 15-9 record and a 3.55 ERA in his first season with the A's.

Kazmir had a stint on the disabled list in 2010 with the Angels because of left shoulder fatigue.

Harper leads NL All-Star voting
By THE SPORTS XCHANGE

Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper topped all vote-getters for the National League All-Star team and four St. Louis Cardinals players were the leaders for starting spots at their positions.

Results of early balloting were announced Wednesday, one day after the American League fan voting was released.

The 22-year-old Harper, a two-time All-Star who has 17 home runs, 42 RBIs and a .331 batting average in 46 games this season, received 1,116,582 votes. Matt Holliday (979,008) of the Cardinals was second and Giancarlo Stanton of the Miami Marlins (746,926) was third among outfielders.

The three other Cardinals leading at their positions were catchers Yadier Molina (859,520), third baseman Matt Carpenter (1,113,060) and Jhonny Peralta (595,741).

If the voting holds, the Cardinals would be the first team since the New York Mets in 2006 with four starters elected in the fan voting.

Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Adrian Gonzales (929,016) and Miami Marlins second baseman Dee Gordon (934,249) were the other position leaders.

The closest race so far is at shortstop. Peralta leads Starlin Castro of the Chicago Cubs by slightly more than 24,000 votes.

'On the Diamond'

Taking a road favorite can be a perilous road in baseball betting, but today’s free MLB pick appears to have enough in its favor to counteract such concerns, as the Pittsburgh Pirates open a road series against the San Diego Padres. According to opening betting odds the Pirates enter this contest as -$1.15 to -$1.25 road favorite. The visiting Pirates will have A.J. Burnett starting, bringing a 4-1 record, 1.37 ERA to the hill. The righthander in excellent form will be looking to extend a four game win streak in which he has surrender just four earned run over 28 innings of work. As a team, the Pirates are on a roll winning six straight crossing 5.8 runs/game. In contrast, San Diego is certainly not following in the same vein, the Padres enter on a 4-8 skid platting only 3.0 runs/game. Adding to Padres woes, they send Ian Kennedy to the mound currently holding a 2-4 mark, 6.11 ERA and looking to end a three game skein that has seen the hurler allow 4 long ball, 14 earned runs for a whopping 7.47 ERA. One final nugget, Kennedy hasn't been a peg to hang your hat on in this situation. Padres are 2-4 in his last six series home openers, 2-4 in his May home starts. Evidence is the key in making any case, and the numbers above clearly illustrate Pittsburgh is the right choice.

Baseball Betting: Streaks, Tips, Notes

New York Yankees at Oakland Athletics 10:05 EST

New York Yankees off a home sweep of the Kansas City Royals hit the road for seven games starting in Oakland. The road has not been kind to Bronx Bombers of late as they've managed just one win the past nine away from Yankee Stadium. A cure, at least in the opener may be left-handed C.C. Sabathia facing an A's lineup which has struggled mightily against lefties. The 'Bay Area' boys are 1-10 vs a southpaw starter this season, 3-18 since last September including 2-12 at O.co Coliseum.

Atlanta Braves at San Francisco Giants 10:15 EST

Thursday, in a series that has kept 'Under' bettors happy the Atlanta Braves and San Francisco Giants open a four game set at AT&T Park. In the Braves and Giants' last 10 meetings the teams hold a 8-2 'Under' record. Additionally, the Braves have played 'Under' the total in 8-of-9 with Shelby Miller on the mound. The Giants have failed to top the total in 11 of their last 15 home games.

Five To Follow MLB Betting: Thursday, May 28, 2015 Opening Line Report
by Alan Matthews

The Marlins simply continue to embarrass themselves. Of course, general manager Dan Jennings named himself manager recently. When he first fired Mike Redmond many thought that third-base coach Brett Butler would become the manager at least for the rest of the season because he played 17 seasons in the majors and spent most of the past decade coaching and managing in the minors before joining the Marlins. But he was passed up, and now Jennings has demoted Butler from his gig to a baserunning/outfield coach. Why? Due to "confusion over signs" in recent games. What does that even mean?

Red Sox at Rangers (-119, 9.5)

I would have bet you anything that Boston would have had a better record than Texas at this point of the season, but the Rangers are at .500 entering Wednesday and the Red Sox in last in the AL East and four games under .500. Left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez is scheduled to make his big-league debut for Boston. Rodriguez, acquired from Baltimore last season for Andrew Miller, is 4-3 with a 2.98 ERA through eight starts in Triple-A and has struck out 44 with only seven walks in 48.1 innings. It's Nick Martinez for the Rangers. Martinez (4-0, 1.96) continues to surprise. He held the Yankees to two runs and five hits over seven innings last time out. He is 2-0 with a 2.22 ERA in four home starts. Martinez has never faced the Red Sox.

Key trends: The Rangers are 6-0 in Martinez's past six following a quality start in his last appearance. Texas is 4-0 in his past four against teams with a losing record. The "over/under" has gone under in nine of Boston's past 11 vs. the AL West. The over is 5-1 in Texas' past six series openers.

Early lean: Martinez has been good, and the Rangers don't know Rodriguez. Love under. Take Texas.

Tigers at Angels (-145, 8.5)

Series opener here. The Tigers had another injury in their rotation, this time to Kyle Lobstein, who was filling in for Justin Verlander (he threw a simulated game on Tuesday as he tries to make his season debut soon). So they will call up Buck Farmer to start this one. That just sounds like a baseball name, doesn't it? Farmer did make two fill-in starts last August and is 0-1 career with an 11.57 ERA in 9.1 big-league innings. He's 5-1 with a 2.98 ERA in nine starts for Triple-A Toledo. He has never faced the Halos. It's lefty C.J. Wilson (2-3, 3.36) for Los Angeles. The team has lost his past two as he has allowed four runs in each of them. Ian Kinsler is a career .381 hitter off him in 21 at-bats. Yoenis Cespedes bats .333 with four walks.

Key trends: Detroit is 5-2 in its past seven against lefties. The Angels are 4-1 in their past five series openers. The Angels are 1-4 in Wilson's past five against teams with a winning record. The over is 5-0 in his past five vs. the AL Central.

Early lean: Angels and over.

Indians at Mariners (+111, 6.5)

Lot of people liked these two clubs winning their respective divisions back in the spring. I didn't agree on Cleveland but did on Seattle. Both are way out of first place. The Indians caught a break on Tuesday when first baseman Carlos Santana was hit by a pitch on the wrist against Texas but that X-rays were negative. So he should be fine. Indians ace Corey Kluber (2-5, 3.49) gets the call. The slacker only had seven strikeouts last time out against Cincinnati after totaling 30 his previous two. He did beat the Reds, allowing a run over eight innings with no walks. He has faced Seattle once, last year, and threw a complete-game shutout. Nelson Cruz is 4-for-13 with a solo homer off him. Seattle lefty James Paxton (3-2, 3.52) has won three straight starts and allowed only two combined runs in them. He has never faced Cleveland.

Key trends: The Indians are 0-4 in Kluber's past four series openers. The Mariners are 5-2 in their past seven openers. The under is 5-0 in Cleveland's past five against southpaws.

Early lean: Mariners and under.

Pirates at Padres (+104, 6.5)

What on earth has gotten into 38-year-old Pirates right-hander A.J. Burnett? He is 4-1 and leads the majors with a 1.37 ERA a season after losing 18 games with the Phillies. Burnett hasn't allowed more than two runs in any of his nine starts. He's the first Pirates pitcher to start a season that way. This absolutely will not last. Justin Upton hits .429 off him with two homers in 14 at-bats. Will Venable is 8-for-19 with two homers and five RBIs. Matt Kemp is 0-for-8 with six whiffs. San Diego's Ian Kennedy (2-4, 6.11) has been disappointing but was pretty solid last time out in allowing two runs and six hits over six innings at the Dodgers, but the Padres lost his third straight start. Neil Walker hits .444 off him with three homers in 18 at-bats. Josh Harrison is 4-for-6 with three extra-base hits.

Key trends: Pittsburgh is 1-4 in Burnett's past five on Thursday. The Padres are 0-6 in Kennedy's past six on that day. The over is 5-1 in Kennedy's past six overall.

Early lean: Pirates, a Walker prop and under.

Braves at Giants (-137, 7)

Another guy having a shockingly good season that will not last is Atlanta's Shelby Miller (5-1, 1.50), although I don't think he will fall off as much as Burnett will. Miller is third in the NL in ERA and WHIP (0.90). Over his past four starts, the Braves have won them all, and he has allowed only three total runs and held batters to a .144 average. The Giants' Nori Aoki is 7-for-18 off him with a solo homer. Hunter Pence also has a solo homer in five at-bats. The league seems to be figuring out Giants rookie Chris Heston (4-3, 4.33). He has allowed 11 runs and 15 hits over 7.2 innings in his past two starts, although San Francisco would win both. Heston has never faced the Braves.

Key trends: The Braves are 5-0 in Miller's past five on the road. The Giants are 4-1 in their past five series openers. The under is 6-1 in the past seven meetings.

Early lean: This line makes no sense to me. Atlanta and the under.

Thursday's six-pack

-- Royals are 12-3 in series openers, best in MLB; they're 8-0 in home openers.

-- Marlins and Indians are both 4-11 in series openers, worst in MLB.

-- Its kind of fun watching live golf from Ireland at 4am in New York.

-- Cardinals lost Matt Adams (quad) for 3-4 months; would they kick the tires on a St Louis native (Ryan Howard), who has a contract Philly would love to dump?

-- Bryce Harper has 13 home runs, just in May.

-- Minnesota Twins are 28-18, solid job so far by rookie manager Molitor.
