Although Italy deserved to lose to Holland, against Romania and France they have been the better side. They have had some bad luck (offside goal vs Romania) and some good luck (injury to Ribery). All in all i think Holland and Italy deserve to go through.

Now, im half spanish half italian so i dont really care who goes through to the semis, but I think Italy are favourites. Of course simply looking at performances so far and players in form then Spain should win, however knowing both teams and national psychology as i do it wont be that simple.

Teams like Germany and Italy have an unexplainable ability to win crucial games. There is an in built belief in the players that winning games is almost like their destiny. Spain are the total opposite. Their belief in their ability to win is very fragile especially when they come up against the bigger teams in the latter stages of tournaments.

For those of you that think that Spain will win because Italy are an old team and lucky to qualify and that Spain are young and in form, you are greatly underestimating the other factors that will determine this game. It is not that simple.

Please tell me you're not saying Italy should be favored over Spain? I'm not even going to think about how each has played so far because Spain was the better team coming into the tourney. Spain probably has the most talent out of any team in the tournament, if not the world. Italy just hasn't looked good to me so far, and that includes today. They beat an average France team today when they were up a man for 65 minutes of the game. They got embarrassed by Holland, and they could have easily lost to Romania if not for a poorly taken PK.

You can never count the Italians out in any tournament, they have a ton of talent and in this case very experimented players. I agree they haven't showed much in this Euro. Remember Italy won't have Gatusso and Pirlo, two key players in my opinion. This might be the last tournament this generation of players might have a shot at winning so it might be extra motivation for a few of them. From what has been seen in this Euro, I would make Spain a favorite. Knowing Spain's history of choking in big tournaments, makes it a tough call. Anyone's game I would say, they both have a good shot at winning.

Yes Spain are playing better than Italy but saying they win 4 out of 5 is ridiculous. The last time Spain beat Italy in a major tournament was 1920 and that was in the Olympics.

Just because Spain might win all 3 group games and score goals at will, Uefa will not give them a one goal lead as a reward. Point im making is when you reach the quarter finals you can forget what happened in the group stages, especially when you're talking about Italy. Italy have struggled in the group stages many many times. Perfect example was in 1994. They scraped through with 4 points losing to Ireland in the first game. What happened next? They beat "in-form" teams; Nigeria, Spain and Bulgaria, and eventually lost on penalties to Brazil.

The last time Italy lost a knock out game in 90 mins was in 1988. Since then they have only lost by a golden goal or by penalties. Compare that with Spain's record in knock out games and you will see why Spain will not win this game 4 out of 5 times.

Italy will def miss Pirlo. We have no one in the squad to replace him, however Gattuso being out is not a problem. I think Donadoni should use the Roma midfield of Perotta, De Rossi and Aquilani against Spain.

How is Sweden on the outside looking in? All they need is a tie against Russia and they move on because of goal differential.

I'm against you as I think Romania and Italy win tomorrow, but not because I think Italy is an amazing team. They have looked very bad, but so has France. Neither team has impressed me yet, but I think the Italians win only to get their hopes up for nothing when Romania beats Holland.
