X,
The Dutch had your exact feeling 10 years ago, now the leadership is in hiding. Go figure.
I'm just now learning about the situation in the Netherlands, but my cursory review leads me to think that the leadership is as afraid of the 'white anglo saxon' response to the Van Gogh killing as they are of the Islamic(s) behind it. There is a rising political party whose platform includes the prevention of any non-white immigration ... they enjoyed 19% support last year, but this year have seen their support drop; not because racism is on the decline, but because the mainstream parties have picked up on the rhetoric.
There is, without question, something amiss in Islamic culture that breeds fundamentalists of this nature. However, there is also such a thing as overreaction, and I daresay that the witchhunt in the Netherlands is a perfect example. Certainly nobody thinks that schoolchildren were behind Van Gogh's murder?
Besides, Canada is doing little different about Muslim/Arabs in this country than the US is doing. What would you have our leadership do? Round them all up and ship them out? Put them in jail? Organise concentration camps?

If quebec went independant whats the chance that the remaining provinces would want to join the US - just curious for the canadian perspective. As far as the US invading canada goes - your safe for now.
If Québec separates, they won't join the US. It might make economic sense for them to do so, but their chances for sovereignty are dramatically lowered with such a move. As for the rest of the provinces, I would say slim to none that any would join the US. Canada can get along fine without Québec. However, I do envision a time (maybe in my lifetime, but probably not) when North America begins to splinter. I could imagine the Northeastern states along with Ontario, Québec, and the Maritime provinces creating one nation, the South another, and the West Coast states along with BC forming yet another. Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba may well join the Midwest. This is presuming that our cultural divides remain as they are, of course.
