Hillary Clinton is fond of downplaying the gravity of the FBI’s investigation into her private email server by calling it a “security review,” but that’s a term that has no meaning to FBI director James Comey.

Talking to reporters during a meeting at FBI headquarters on Wednesday, Comey said that the term “security inquiry” does not register with him and that agents are conducting an “investigation.”

Really? Surely Comey must be mistaken.

Context is key. Breitbart is full of shit.

Second, even as we each embrace our own beautiful, unique, and valid versions of our blackness, remember the tie that does bind us as African Americans -- and that is our particular awareness of injustice and unfairness and struggle. That means we cannot sleepwalk through life. We cannot be ignorant of history. (Applause.) We can’t meet the world with a sense of entitlement. We can’t walk by a homeless man without asking why a society as wealthy as ours allows that state of affairs to occur. We can’t just lock up a low-level dealer without asking why this boy, barely out of childhood, felt he had no other options. We have cousins and uncles and brothers and sisters who we remember were just as smart and just as talented as we were, but somehow got ground down by structures that are unfair and unjust.

And that means we have to not only question the world as it is, and stand up for those African Americans who haven’t been so lucky -- because, yes, you've worked hard, but you've also been lucky. That's a pet peeve of mine: People who have been successful and don’t realize they've been lucky. That God may have blessed them; it wasn’t nothing you did. So don’t have an attitude. But we must expand our moral imaginations to understand and empathize with all people who are struggling, not just black folks who are struggling -- the refugee, the immigrant, the rural poor, the transgender person, and yes, the middle-aged white guy who you may think has all the advantages, but over the last several decades has seen his world upended by economic and cultural and technological change, and feels powerless to stop it. You got to get in his head, too.

Now that we have the context, what part of this message is encouraging graduates to go out and contribute to making a better world for all through hard work?

Personally I think it's time for black people to forget history and look forward, just like the Irish, and Italians, and Armenians, and Russians, and Germans, and Vietnamese, and Chinese, and Japanese, and Jews have done.

The thought of the suggested discrimination is a dead weight in black people's heads. Get rid of it and join the rest of America in striving for self reliance, and gee, maybe reaching out to help your fellow man.

Obama's message is vitterd's message. And it's a bad message.

It's time for black people to look up and forward. Not down and back.

Did you read the entire speech? I only posted the part that related to Dave's article. The whole speech does not carry the same tone.

That said, I guess I don't understand why black people should just accept that the system stacks the odds against them. For example, if you're black you're 4x more likely to be arrested for marijuana possession than if you're white despite white and black people using marijuana at roughly the same rates (14% of black people using marijuana and 12% of white people using marijuana). That's not acceptable to me. Maybe it is to you. The only way that it changes is by talking about it.

I'm not an Obama guy, I voted for Romney. I wish Romney had won. I'm just not fond of the misleading hit pieces that sites like breitbart pass off as news.

That's a pet peeve of mine: People who have been successful and don’t realize they've been lucky. That God may have blessed them; it wasn’t nothing you did.”

As I’ve said before, this man is a complete idiot.

Let’s break this down
#1 Since when did this become a big pet peeve of Obama’s? Like just last week or can we get an example of him saying this in the past 7 years?
#2 Who, exactly, are these people who are successful and attribute 0% of it to luck? I’ve never met anyone like that in my life. So he’s going with a strawman there
#3 The last part is completely incoherent. There are successful people who didn’t work hard (or are unintelligent) and God just blessed them so it was “nothing you did”?
Does he mean people such as Ted Kennedy? WTF is it even supposed to mean?

The guy is a complete asshole and moron.

Quarter of 'straight' young women admit to having a same-sex fling while HALF believe gender isn't 'fixed' - thanks to celebrities being open about their experiences.

Well one advantage is it doubles your chances of getting a date.

Uncle! Uncle!

“He has gotten more votes than any Republican primary nominee in the history of our country,” Ryan told reporters after meeting with Trump. “And this isn’t even over yet, he hasn’t even gone to California yet, it’s really a remarkable achievement.”

Ryan argued that the policies that Trump brought to the party would fit under the big tent — even if he didn’t completely agree with the presumptive nominee.

“I represent a wing of a conservative party, you could say,” Ryan said. “He’s bringing a whole new wing to it.”

“I’m not interested in litigating the past,” Ryan told reporters, who repeatedly asked about his policy differences with Trump. “I’m interested in going forward and seeing where that common ground exists to make sure that we can have a unified Republican party.”

Smooch Smooch Kissy Kissy

Thursday on Capitol Hill after his meeting with the presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, Speaker of the House Paul Ryan declared he was “very encouraged” by his meeting with Trump.

It appears that finally alls well in Republican land.

Is Islamophobia accelerating global warming? That was the actual title of a lecture given earlier this week at Massachusetts Institute of Technology by a professor Ghassan Hage.

I can’t decide who should be more upset: the Australian taxpayers who are funding this loon’s position as a “future generation professor” at Melbourne University.

Or the alumni (including the Koch brothers, Michael Bloomberg, “Buzz” Aldrin and IM Pei) and donors who must surely now be asking of MIT “I thought the M stood for Massachusetts not Mickey Mouse. What the hell’s happened to the place? Why is student time and university funding being wasted on this unutterable horseshit?”

Actually, the answer to the question is quite simple.

Ghassan Hage fits perfectly the profile required for anyone who wants to get on in modern academe.

For those of you who were unable to attend the lecture, here is what you missed:

This talk examines the relation between Islamophobia as the dominant form of racism today and the ecological crisis. It looks at the three common ways in which the two phenomena are seen to be linked: as an entanglement of two crises, metaphorically related with one being a source of imagery for the other and both originating in colonial forms of capitalist accumulation. The talk proposes a fourth way of linking the two: an argument that they are both emanating from a similar mode of being, or enmeshment, in the world, what is referred to as ‘generalised domestication.’

Say what?

Vociferous Trump critic Glenn Beck predicted on his radio show today that Donald Trump would be the next president of the United States.

Beck’s prediction was all the more remarkable because of his vehement opposition to the New York real estate mogul who he views as a Hitler-like psychopath with supporters he’s compared to Nazi Brownshirts.

Critics have accused the Obama administration of effectively acting as Iran’s law firm during the nuclear negotiations, but now Secretary of State John Kerry seems determined to volunteer as Iran’s marketing director.

As part of what the Wall Street Journal describes as “the Obama Administration’s moves recently to help integrate Iran into the global economic system after decades of punitive sanctions,” Kerry urged European businesses not to use the remaining U.S. sanctions on Iran as an excuse to avoid doing business with Tehran.

Unfucking believable!

Are we sure the Senate is control by Republicans?

The U.S. Senate’s first spending bill of 2016 allocates $261 million more than President Barack Obama requested and lacks significant conservative amendments, but it still sailed to passage Thursday in the Republican-led chamber.

An overwhelming number of senators on both sides of the aisle approved the energy and water development appropriations bill, by a vote of 90-8.

CHICAGO (CBS) — Police in Milwaukee have launched an investigation after three teenagers live streamed themselves having sex, while their classmates watched on their phones at school.

CBS 58 in Milwaukee reports two girls, 14 and 15, and a boy, 15, reportedly skipped school in January, and engaged in sex acts off school grounds, while streaming video live on Facebook. Four students watched the video on their phones while in health class at Barack Obama School of Career and Technical Education.

Oh the irony!

Friday on Fox News Channel’s “America’s Newsroom,” Democratic National Committee chairwoman Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) said the Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton was not “a target” of the FBI investigation into her handling of classified material on her private email server during her tenure as secretary of state.

See, I told you Comey must be mistaken. :)
