Talk def is cheap until we see him in a jersey and playing, however My friend said that "as far as the public knows from what otis smith said its a no, but from what we were told in the staff meeting today, he will see some minutes"

Then he text's me today and tells me that we cant hang out thursday to watch game 1... i asked why and he said because he will be watching it from the staples center in la.... apparently the entire magic staff is being flown out to watch game 1.......... :(

No one know how effective Jameer can be coming back after being gone for 5 months, so it will be interesting to see if, when and how many minutes he sees.

He will not be dehydrated or "bleached-out" from the gruel of the long season; from a rested angle, he could be helpful. Still,
the all limportant "edge" will [not] be there.

There's no reason he shouldn't come in for 10-15 min. off the bench. It's a game of runs, he could spark a couple good runs in the series that could be at important tmes. And if he's doesn't, he gave a guy a few min rest.

This is the most sensible post so far in this here thread

"mess with the chemistry..."...lol

Nonsensical thought....Nelson was part of the chemistry which helped propel Orlando to a great first 3+ months.

Nelson does not replace Alston, nor any of the other front seven players in the rotation.

He replaces the 12th man in the rotation.

He's a fresh body and he's a good solid defender.

Presuming sufficient health, he's invauable to play 12 to 15 minutes to keep full-energy defensive pressure on the Lakers backcourt.

And he's another legit driver for the hoop who could, in that floor time, draw three to four fouls, thus further chipping away at the Laker lineup.

Sticking with that "15 minute" max, what we would probably see is about eight minutes less for JJ Reddick and maybe two minutes each off of Alston, Hedo, Lewis and Pietrus

Makes them all likely more effective overall, especially on the defensive end

It will be interesting, im thinking one of the games they will pop him in for a couple minutes and see how it feels and how the chemistry is.. probably looking to do it when they have a lead or some sort of cushion to test him out.. that is my guess.

I think you're right on target

He's the perfect guy to roll out for last two minutes of first quarter and then two to three minutes later in first half. Repeat in 3Q and second half.

Barman, I agree with some of the insight you provided above in your post, but get a clue pal. The first 3 months? Yea, ok that is spectacular, but that was then this is now. This team isn't going to get what they were getting from Nelson early on in the season, obviously. The chemistry statement is not a nonsensical thought at all. Chemistry changes during the course of the year and Skip has been apart of this new chemistry in the playoffs. I just believe that the Magic have played their best ball of the year in the playoffs and Nelson has had nothing to do with that. I understand that he isn't going to start over Skip, but why add something to a machine that is getting the job done. Why change your game plan and your substitution rotation? I mean it is great that he will be able to spell his teammates coming off the bench because we all know that a deep bench is important in the playoffs. In all reality, nobody knows exactly what you are going to get from him, but I do believe that the worst that can happen is he is a nonfactor.

It's this simple... without him they have no chance. With him who knows. So I would take the who knows over no chance.

Good. There's hope for you yet.

Nelson - if activated - will not be replacing Alston or anyone else in the front seven of the rotation.

He'll be replacing the 12th man and provide relief minutes in two to three minute blocks for about four or five players.

He was on the All Star team, for crying out loud.

To suggest that if physically capable, the Magic leave him inactive so that Tyron Lue can sit at the far end of the bench seems a peculiar strategy.

"Sorry Jameer. We agree with you and the team docs that you're physically capable of playing, but Lue has been giving us a solid 2 minutes a game so far in the playoffs and we just don't want to mess with that"

There's still no word on if he'll play (as he's recovering from shoulder surgery), or how many minutes he might get, so stay away from him in fantasy games. An earlier report suggested he'd been ruled out for tonight's game, but it is now looking like he will play at some point in the Finals.

Cool....

Would have sucked for this here Thread to have devolved into a "What IF Nelson had been activated and had played??"
