OK, so I'm a Johnny Come-Lately on this thread, but who cares--Here's my two cents....
For 3 years or so, I made the main portion of my living doing what I like to call "advantage playing" using casino bonuses (made about 75 thousand total, plus I was also doing freelance writing at home). My wife worked while I did this and I got to stay home and raise my newborn son. It took discipline and organization, but it was definitely worth it.
I think things have really dried up in the last year or so, casino-bonus-wise, but there are still some opportunities--but not like there used to be. But maybe I'm just being lazy. I've kind of moved on...
As to this whole bonus "whoring" thing. Royalfan, I've always totally respected your posts and opinions. If you can make lots of money gambling in others ways that fantastic. I wish I could, but I just can't.
Personally, I feel quite strongly that there's nothing unethical or even unseemly about taking advantage of bonuses that casinos, or sportsbooks, offer. Casinos are certainly not being high-minded when they offer these bonuses. If I play by their rules and benefit from them, that's simply the price they pay for trying to attract customers. I mean, the whole reason casinos exist is to take money from people. If I can take money from a casino, and not by cheating, that's somehow "whoring?" Frankly, I feel that it's stupid if you see the opportunity and don't take advantage of it. But different strokes for different folks....
My point is--there's nothing wrong with taking advantage of bonuses...PERIOD! It's just being a smart player. Let's all just stop using this silly "bonus whore" label.
