played competitve hockey all my life, still play in a mens league. I coach in the .
in my experience killing penalties does not signficantly 'tire' a team out. Again, much of pp time the players are in a defensive set up (as per coach's preference), and much of the time the pp is played in one side of the rink---- your 'excessive energy exerted' is hyperbole .This factor will have a more significant effect on European size ice rinks.
the 11 minutes of penalty killing time wasnt the factor why Detroit lost. In fact, they dominated late in the second period (one wouldn't expect this with your theory for them to be 'tired'). In addition, the 3rd period was classic tight hockey, jam the neutral zone--by no means did Chicago skate over a 'tired' team. Keep in mind Chicago is a young team. FATIGUE WAS NOT A FACTOR for the Red Wings.
what is your experince in the game? were you a penalty killign specialist at MSU? coach? is this why you hold to your opinion?
