Peep,

It is in part thankless, moreso when you personally involve yourself. Like I said yesterday, learn from Joe. The longer you moderate, the more you have to get somewhat detached, otherwise you will burn your mind out on it.

It's because no matter how much "power" you have as moderator, you will be outnumbered and overwhelmed by posters in general. They can generate more heat than one individual can stand, unless that individual learns to protect himself psychologically. And detachment is the key to that protective process.

So when Joe says he moderates by a 'formula' of sorts, it makes plenty of sense. Then one can pick and choose where to get personally involved, convserve one's energy, etc., and make the experience a lot more liveable.

I don't know what you do for a living, but I have been in sales (of a kind) all my life.

And yeah, you can do moderating (or sales) by a formula, or you can do moderating (or sales) by treating each individual poster as a real "person" who has has real needs that can be met here.

I am in my 7th week, I never asked for the job, I have been asked to do it, I will do it the best I can.

And I have never been one to do ANYTHING by formula....(like to create it anew each day and "see how it goes"). And, if I am learning, each day goes a little better than the last.

Butch was NOT my hire (to the extent he was a "hire", looks to me like Shrink offered him a "co-winner of the Poster of the Week" after he whined, Butchy managed to stretch things out a bit from there).

I have had to babysit the whiney baby THREE HOURS A DAY in IM since he has been here up until last week, and I feel a "thank god" he is gone.

And yet I have to admit I sort of liked the guy, I know FAR more about him and his personal life and circumstances than I am ever going to post for the forum.

On the whole, I think his "drama" was a greater bad for the site that his posts (some of which were just excellent) were good for the site.

Shrink may disagree, and so may many posters.

I do know he was high maintance for me in any case.

$400... a relaxing blowjob at the Bellagio for Shrink.

Peep getting screwed for free in the Rubber Room? priceless

All I can say is.....some people in this forum are SERIOUSLY f u c k ed in the head. /infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

No matter who has is lying or who is telling the truth. ALL of this crap the last month could have been avoided.

The powers that be were either blind, clueless, or didn't WANT to fix it.

To be honest the whole situation is very unsettling to me.

One side is no more blameworthy than the other and I am positive there is a lot more to this story. On a similar note, I am not ready to feed into Butch's desires that posters start trashing the Rx staff.

I too often forget that Rx is a business first and forum second. I just need to remind myself of this more frequently. And thats fine by me.

The Prescription has become somewhat of a brand in an evolving industry. It's crucial that Rx stay fresh, generate interest, and more importantly, revenue.

I understand all of this. Nonetheless, the situation is unfortunate.

GL.

Minnow,
Do you like my "scammer brigade" that start a new thread on me here everyday? They are priceless too.
*****************************
Doc,
Yeah, it's a business. I never had any problem with that, even as a poster. I don't think there are any great "evils" here. Butch wanted a job, Shrink (and I) wanted him to contribute.

How you measure "contribution" in this business is hits or posts or threads, "participation".

Butch just kept getting loopy, made it hard for him to contribute. Everyday he would have a hissy fit, for want of a better word.

And a Marilyn Monroe he ain't......

No big deal on that level.

Peep, to be honest I seldom visit the Rubber Room. Today is maybe my 3rd or 4th time, and I would have missed it if the link had not been sent to me.
It is just too confusing. Everybody seems to be the same 3 or 4 people and it just gets on my nerves. Sorry.
And as for your scammer threads.. Good Lord. I can't follow Shamer at all. I swear, he is the most messed up of all, or my name isn't John McNaught!
(i might live to regret that joke.. no? lol)
Anyway...

* Ivan waves bye-bye to Butch* BYE BYE BUTCHY!

Now its time for you to go outside and get some fresh air which I've been telling you to do since Day #1.

"Folks who vicariously live their *real* lives through the internet/usenet are to be pitied 'cause they are mentally ill. "

Yeah tell us about it Frank.

Rubber room isn't for everyone, that is for sure.

Joe called it a "shithole", we do indeed get all the threads no one else wants, so the toilet analogy is appropriate.

We do have permanent residents though.

BTW,I have no idea what to make of all of this shit.Usually the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

Judge: you are right about that

Peep: if moderating makes you complain about being a moderator... oh forget it.
