ha, he definitely would never say that! If one's only metric is total majors won then yupper its Jack.
Tiger has won 11 more PGA titles than Nicklaus in less yrs played on tour . Their win % rate when both hit age 44 ? Tiger 6% higher . Tiger had the most dominating year in golf history, 2000 calender yr.
Who matches Woods consistency? he made the cut a PGA record 142 times . 2nd place? got to go the B Nelson era lol Nelson 113
Woods had way way more International glory, he's 3rd in European tour titles of all time at 41 DESPITE never being a member of that tour!
Tiger was so far ahead of his competition that they literally changed course layouts cause of him, they lengthened Augusta --he was coming with a wedge at the par 5 15th, 13th . Was like a muni course for him, protected only by the speedy greens. They do that for Jack? or any other golfer for that matter?
don't think we see another Tiger or Jack again. Cant see it for 2 big reasons -- the game has gone global (The Woods effect) , greater breadth of players, and more athletic type players (not all tom kites) Secondly technology is massively leveling the playing field. They played blades , persimmon woods in Jack's time, lol , with balata balls --- no room for error, elite strikers could really shine. How many pros today carry 3 iron/2 irons in the bag? gotta be nuts to -- its easier to hit a hybrid, utility iron, 7 wood . Makes the field closer.
Jack wanted DJ to hit a persimmon driver, i guess he wanted to see how a big athletic guy in today's golf era would manage?
well, DJ hit it 290 yds , lol. Hit the an old 1 iron 230 yds. Geez, he can hit today's 4 iron that distance
im assumming they used today's golf ball and not the old balata balls, huge huge difference
