I have two cases of Upper Decks from like 89-91. I know the Ken Griffey Jr rookie is in there

Any value? I bought them for my kids, who were like 4 to 6 at the time

Also have a 1961 Topps Roger Maris. Took a bunch of memorabilia to settle a debt

Griffey rookie PSA 10 just sold yesterday for 28 hundred (Cdn) One is currently up for bidding at 24 hundred with two days left. Roger Maris at an 8 grade is about a thousand bucks.

15 Years ago when I was young and hung, all the Sports Card places where all going out of business.

Figured it was dead like disco, once again I'm wrong.

The sports card industry completely exploded when there was worldwide lockdowns combined with free government money. All card values went through the roof but in February/March of 2021, all values tanked. Unopened stuff, individual cards, etc. Everything dropped 50%+

The industry is still very active but most recent investors got in right before the crash and are mega bag holders for the time being.

Good thing this is a "hobby"

I think everything you said have some truth to it, but it is a lot more complicated than that and also, most the values tanked(the over printed stuff that you would expect to tank). But if you look carefully, rarer cards and parallels have held better. It is not too late to get into the card hobby game, but you just have to know what you are doing and what your objective is... like anything in life you partake in. I believe that card hobby / Investory whatever you want to call it.. is very far from dead.

I watched that Real sports segment on Friday nite with my wife and son.

Ever since, my son has been researching cards.

He actually found some panini NFL cards (i think 8 to a pack?) and he wanted to buy 2 packs. He gave us 2 of his target gift cards from birthday money to buy the packs.

Hopefully he gets something cool

fw- nobody cares about set's anymore. Unless they are doing like rainbow's of a certain player. then you have people getting into bidding wars for say a luka doncic green #ed to 5. might sell for 2-3k etc

So I have been finding sports cards at Target and Meijers, $34.99 (used to be 24.99) per box 24 cards and a bonus pack. guess it is a retail box, last couple months I’ve purchased 8 boxes got some nice players and variations but nothing great no autographs. So I go to a new local card shop, dude tells me retail stores boxes don’t have the good stuff, here is hobby box, yes it’s $110 but 90 cards guaranteed autos and better variations. Thought he was Bullshitting me, so I gave it a chance ,1st pack get a autograph Dylan Carlson 1/15 bronze donut, tatis , trout, wander Franco, Robert, nice variations, Just be aware that big box boxes, you are going to get many duplicates, and no autographs, I had no idea, they post on side on box what you could get like lottery odds, but you get nothing guaranteed like hobby box.
