COVERS - PICK 'N' ROLL
(Tracking Started On 2/22/2011)

13-19-1 (NBA)

12-9-0 (NCAA HOOPS)

MONDAY 3/20/2011

NBA

Orlando Magic at Cleveland Cavaliers (11)

Orlando coach Stan Van Gundy is pretty happy with his team’s play recently. The Magic have won three of the last four, limiting their opposition to fewer than 90 points in all three of those victories.

Orlando’s defense came up big and Jameer Nelson hit a trey at the buzzer to help the club to an 85-82 win over Denver on Friday.

"When you have things happen you're just able to persevere and grind it out or pull it out, no matter how you get it it's always good to show some resiliency in your team," swingman Jason Richardson told reporters after Orlando shot just 35.9 percent in the win.

Orlando may be winning, but that poor shooting is a major reason why Magic bettors have cashed in only twice over the last 10 games. This could be the game Orlando puts it all together.

Pick: Magic

NCAAB

New Mexico Lobos at Alabama Crimson Tide (-4.5)

The Alabama Crimson Tide may be without one of their top players off the bench for a second straight game when they hook up with New Mexico in the NIT on Monday.

Sophomore forward Andrew Steele suffered a concussion in the SEC Tournament and sat out Alabama’s blowout of Coastal Carolina. He’s considered questionable for Monday’s game.

Steele’s numbers aren’t outstanding – five points and 2.6 rebounds over about 18 minutes per game – but he brings a lot more to the table for this Tide team, which was just 6-6 straight up while he was hurt this year and 16-5 after he came back.

"Andrew plays a big part in a leadership role," Alabama freshman point guard Trevor Releford told reporters of Steele. "He's like a coach on the floor. We're going to need him to get to the championship."

We’ll side with the Tide here but would feel a lot better about the bet if Steele plays.

Pick: Crimson Tide

Jeff Benton's Monday Action

30 Dime college basketball seleation on Washington State minus the points vs. Oklahoma State in an NIT contest from Pullman, Wash. At the time I releacse this play at 12:15 p.m. Eastern, the Cougars are a solid 6-point favohite both here in Vegas and offshore.

Maybe we can add Bookie Assassin to the Pick Nation crew to see if we have a pattern where they are all on one team.

I'll update the other two goons later. This Jack Howard guy has gotten off to a horrific start since entering their site this past week.

Tonight's picks...

Carrera: Creighton
Bruce: Spurs, Nuggets
Howard: -
Chang: -

I think Garrett is on Alabama because it's Tyson's Bonus Play and I believe they are both alter egos of Trace Adams. Also Adams Bonus Play is Oregon and Tyson has a play on that.

So

20 Dimes Karl Garrett-Alabama
20 Dimes Joel Tyson-Oregon

I think I may just try a new strategy. I'm going to fade max Pick Nation plays and flat bet them. Hopefully hit 55%. It seems these guys routinely fail on their big plays and when tracked among all of Service Play handicappers this ended up being around 57%. I feel Pick Nation fades played a role in that.

Since each handicapper has slightly different unit systems and tendencies to release big plays here is what I have come up with.

Play by fading these:

For Baldo it's a 30 dimer.
For Jordan it's a 1,000 units+ play.
For Maxwell it's 600 units+ play.
For Rivers it's 500 unit max plays.
For Adams it's 1,500 units and above plays.
For Lang, Benton, Valentino, O'Brien, Michaels, Tyson, Garrett, Atkins, Cannon and Budin it's plays 50 dimes and over.
For Redd, Nover, Fanelli, Delaney, Mcneil, Mancini, and Davis it's 75 and over dimes. These are more big dime handicappers.

Benefits of this is these guys usually choke on these plays. Another benefit is the fact that somebody buys and posts the big plays on that site so I can get it confirmed in the Service Play Forum. I'm simply going to bet 2 units a game on these and this will help me be more selective overall.

In the event these guys are on opposite sides I'll throw the pick out.

I know it seems like a cheap start to this but I came up with this idea on Thursday when DeMarco lost his 30 dimer with Villanova and Michaels lost his 100 dimer on Temple. Budin is 4-4 for basketball per Joe's thread on plays greater than 50 dimes. I had some partial tracking numbers on this for this year and this is my probably inaccurate listing.

Since I've been tracking Valentino he's 1-3 on these such plays. Mcneil is 0-3 (SW Missouri State, Syracuse losing to Seton Hall outright and one other college one I can't remember). Delaney is 0-2 (Notre Dame losing to Louisville and Gonzaga beating to St Marys).

Nover lost his 100 dimer with Texas yesterday. Atkins lost his 75 dimer on UNC. Cannon dropped a 75 dimers earlier in the year.

Issue here is I don't have Redd's figures which are key. Just think about his Super Bowl.

Budin (4-4)
Valentino (1-3)
Michaels (7-7)
Nover (0-1)
Davis (4-3)
Jordan (0-4)
McNeil (0-3)
Delaney (0-2)
DeMarco (0-1)
Lang (1-0)
Atkins (0-1)
Cannon (0-1)

Simply a guess to show this may work: 17-30 Record

Budin has a Game of the Year tonight with no dime rating. I'll count is as a 50 Dimer I guess. Regardless I'm flat betting so I'm going to use it as a play.

I will be fading his pick and playing on the Knicks at home over the Celtics. If anyone could assist with past records (doubt it) it would be appreciated.

I posted that Budin's play tonight is a 25 Dimer.

budin's release is a 25 dimer. id say hes about 3-7 or 4-6 his last 10 plays... pimp or mccrazy, do you keep fade records on a spreadsheet or just on here. curious to see jordans week by week results since SB without having to kill my cell phone battery.

The guys I keep track of, I just keep track in this thread.

McCrazy is the main guy who kept track of Jordan so he may or may not have more info.

Chris Jordan Weekly Results since the thread started:

2/7: -4010 units
2/14: +180 units
2/21: -80 units
2/28: -1700 units
3/7: -400 units
3/14: -1000 units
3/21: +10 units (100 Spurs pending)

It would also be fair to say that his avg release is a 200 to 300 dime release, with him taking it in the pooper on large releases.

I would imagine Al DeMarco is on Alabama at home in this one. It opened at 4.5 and now is 6.5. I'm taking my shot at the line movement and going UNM +6.5

He's 99.5% on Celtics if Budin is on them...

Nope, only here. I'm too lazy to do it in more then 1 place, especially since I have been picking and choosing when to fade recently.

I know for a fact that Redd is 0-3 on 80 Dime releases since the Superbowl. Basically he's garbage anytime he throws out a bet 50 dimes and up. He actually seems to do best when he has 20, 25 or 30 dime trifectas, but he always goes for the big win at some point and it always comes back to bite him in the ass. I've been fading every Red play over 50 dimes without fail and have been doing very well.

It's going to be a slow fading week until Thursday. Small plays and trifectas. But watch the big plays come out on Thursday when the Sweet Sixteen starts.

Yeah I lost with the Knicks. I can't seem to win lately. I saw it was a 25 dime play so I guess it won't go on the official Big Play record yet.
