John McCain
Todays fun fact
Okay, people...before John McCain dies and the ridiculous "tributes" to the man make me vomit, let's remember what McCain's real legacy is: His father was the Admiral in charge of the Pacific fleet prosecuting the war in Vietnam.
Because of this McCain got preferential treatment in the Navy. He was allowed to become a Navy pilot. But he was a terrible pilot.
McCain crashed two navy Jets in his early career. Then while aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS Forrestal, McCain got angry because he had to wait in line to take off on a bombing run.
He shut off his engines, opened the cockpit, and in his haste to exit the aircraft to chew someone out about his having to " wait", he hit the button that released his live bombs onto the deck of the Forrestal.
He took off running, as the bombs exploded, which set off a chain reaction of bombs from adjacent aircraft, and the ensuing explosions and fires killed 133 sailors aboard the Forrestal.
While his fellow sailors were fighting the fire, McCain went to the pilot's lounge below decks and watched the men fight the fire on closed circuit TV.
Hours later, McCain took off with a New York Times reporter buddy of his, and went on to say that after seeing the effects of those bombs on the Forrestal, he was beginning to question the morality of dropping those bombs on the Viet Cong.
McCain was the direct cause of 133 deaths on his own ship, and was never reprimanded. He was nowhere to be found as the Forrestal had to limp to the Philippines for months of repair work.
McCain was married then. His wife was stricken with debilitating injuries in an automobile accident. And was hospitalized for more than 5 months. McCain was off gallivanting with anything in a skirt.
Upon returning from Vietnam Nam, McCain found his wife was disfigured by her injuries, which included a shattered pelvis, arm, and legs. In order to save her legs, doctors performed 23 surgeries on her, and had to remove significant portions of the bones in her legs, which left he shorter, and unable to walk, and in a wheelchair, she had to use a catheter.
McCain was disinterested in his first wife's predicament. She had to go through grueling physical therapy to learn to walk again.
After McCain left the Navy, he was intent on a career in politics. He and His wife Carol had gotten to know Ronald and Nancy Reagan, and McCain was eager to jump into politics.
But he decided he needed a more visually pleasing young woman by his side. He callously divorced Carol, the mother of his three children, and immediately jumped into the sack with new wife Cindy, who was 18 years younger.
Upon learning of this, the Reagans were shocked and angered by how he had treated Carol.
While campaigning for congress, McCain used pictures of himself posing with Mr. And Mrs. Reagan, but there was no hearty endorsement offered by the Reagans.
McCain's new young wife was also an heiress to an Arizona Brewing fortune.
And let us not forget McCain was one of the Keating 5, who had helped swindle life savings from countless Americans in the Savings and Loan scandal of the 1980's. McCain was in it up to his eyeballs.
Yet McCain was well-connected in Washington, and parlayed his connections into a seat in the United States Senate.
So before the tearful tributes to John McCain, be sure you remember the facts about this self-proclaimed Maverick. The facts do not agree with that portrait of a heroic patriot and great American.
With due respect to his family, John McCain was never the great man so many portray him as.
I do not wish the man any harm or ill-will. But neither should we allow this false narrative fairy-tale about this scoundrel of a man as he faces his eternal fate.

When I read the title of this thread the first thing that came to mind was how can you possibly
use brilliance and John McCain in the same sentence?

Mia culpa.

'McCain was accepted to the United States Naval Academy, though he was not a strong student. He was
often disciplined for misbehavior and ultimately graduated near the bottom–790th out of 795–of the class
1958. In 2005, he returned to the school to speak to a political science class, saying he was pleased to be
back at the "old school where I did so well."

All that does is prove you can ride someone's coattails to prosperity.

Joe Biden called John McCain ahead of the Senate's vote on the healthcare repeal and lobbied for the lawmaker to go against it, according to reports.
Senator McCain's shocking vote was reportedly influenced by Biden during a phone call from the former vice president in which they talked about McCain's brain cancer.
In an emotional talk with the Arizona Republican, Biden is said to have discussed McCain's glioblastoma diagnosis, the same tumor that killed his son Beau in 2015.
After the reported phone call, McCain went into the Senate and stunned fellow lawmakers when he voted against his party's 'skinny' repeal of Obamacare on Friday.

In an emotional appeal to the Arizona Republican, the two are said to have discussed McCain's recent glioblastoma diagnosis, the same disease that killed Biden's son Beau in 2015 (pictured together in 2008)

McCain was lobbied by Biden and also by his old friend Joseph Lieberman, a former senator from Connecticut, the Washington Post reported.
After McCain's reported phone calls with the two retired politicians, he walked into the chamber and stunned both Republicans and Democrats when he voted against the healthcare repeal.
Biden reportedly asked McCain to vote against the repeal during their conversation before the early morning vote, although it is unclear exactly what time the call took place.
The Post reported the two also talked about McCain's cancer during the phone call.

Term limits...and mental health standards. Congress needs both, and Johnny Mac is the poster child why.

The implication was that he would return to Washington and rally the troops to save the repeal with his vote. He shot
it down, so why all the pageantry? He rode in on a white horse and then surrendered, sounds familiar. His legacy
as a backstabbing RINO has been etched in stone. How fitting that
his last vote was him screwing over the very people that put him into office.

This undocumented Democrat is not of sound mind and has a white hot hatred of Trump and the people who voted for Trump.
At this point he obviously hates Trump more than he loves America. He is off his chain as he has nothing to lose.

For the life of me, I've never understood why being a POW makes you a war hero. Unfortunate, yes. But because you were caught and tortured (I'm assuming) makes you a war hero? Why? I think the fact that you served the country would make everyone a hero, so why is he singled out? No one else seems to be categorized like that and many people in politics and everyday life serve(d) in the military.

Reagan wouldn't even allow him in the white house. He finished 894th in a class of 899 yet still got assigned at a navy unit & promoted ahead of all but 2 of his 898 classmates due to wealthy pampered background. Records are sealed as a matter of 'national security' He systematically voted against every single pay increase for military and vets throughout his entire political career, but took credit for passage of GIBill he voted against. Plenty more we know and don't know.

John McCain passed away Saturday night at the age of 81 after a battle with brain cancer but that did not stop him from taking one last shot at President Trump from beyond the grave.

McCain’s farewell message to the nation was read aloud in Phoenix on Monday afternoon by Rick Davis, a former campaign manager for McCain.

“We weaken our greatness when we confuse our patriotism with tribal rivalries that have sown resentment and hatred and violence in all corners of the globe,” McCain said in a farewell statement he penned taking a shot at Trump.

“We weaken it when we hide behind walls, rather than tear them down, when we doubt the power of our ideas rather than trust them to be the great force for change they have always been,” Davis continued as he held back tears.

“We are 325 million opinionated, vociferous individuals. We are argue and compete and sometimes even vilify each other in our raucous public debates. But we have always had so much more in common with each other than in disagreement.

Hide behind walls, rather than tear them down....make war on every continent on the planet being this "great force for change".... blah blah blah...

What an utter RINO disaster this miserable curmudgeon was!

Get lost already! :>(

McCain was the worst Republican candidate for President of my lifetime.

Here's one for ya. I considered voting for Obama expecting that he would lead his race into the 21st century and seal the deal that Martin Luther King started when he said "judge not a man by the color of his skin but by the content of his character".

I was right about McCain. Boy was I wrong about Obama.
