Best - Led Zepplin around 77 or 78

Worst - Brooks and Dunn (ex gf took me. I swear every song sounded the same)

Best - Beastie Boys, Hello Nasty at LA Forum in 1998, just tore the place down. I wasn't much of a Beasties fan before that, next day I went out and bought everything they had on CD. Also saw Pearl Jam/Rolling Stones at the Oakland Coliseum in 98 or 99. wasn't a Stones fan so I went to see PJ, the friend I was with was a huge Stones fan so we stayed for about half of the Stones and I was really impressed with them, great show, sounded good, a lot of their older stuff which was great. Can't recall the name of the song, but it is one of their really popular ones that has a chick (super fat black chick at this show) who does the background vocals (very prominent in the song), that just was amazing. Of course, some 60 year old dude in front of us got us high so that may have had something to do with it.

Worst - Johnny Gill, Bell Biv Devoe, Keith Sweat and Monie Love, God was that awful. Guns and Roses in about 1987 at a small place in upstate NY. And GnR. Before Brock loses his shit, I like GnR, but we went to see the opening band and had never heard of GnR at the time. There were literally like 200 people there. During the opening act this guy with crazy frizzy hair comes out into the crowd, sits in the row behind us and pounds a bottle of jack. We start talking to the guy, he gives us some of the jack (which was great, I was like 14 or 15) and goes back to the side of the stage. 20 minutes later he is on stage with a guitar in his hand. 2 weeks later Welcome to the Jungle is all over MTV and they are the biggest band in the world. Like I said, we had no idea who they were which I am sure had much to do with our lack of interest in the show.

Iron Maiden - Somewhere in Time tour '87.

If you weren't or are not a metal fan may be hard to believe but Dickinson on vocals was unreal and band was so tight on every song. The had so many great songs from previous albums to play from and did all night. Power actually went out at one point from heat, voltage etc.

Worst was Sting several years ago. Had an arrogant, holy than though attitude on stage and came out in his music. Very let down by show.

I saw three shows of that Maiden tour and it was awesome.

i forgot one show, how could i!

Pearl Jam, July 1995 at Soldier Field. They played forever and were as tight a band with as varied a setlist as you can imagine, never the same show two nights in a row.

fhmesq44, thats a cool G N R story, who was the guy who sat behind you? Izzy or Slash? Awesome to see bands and have a memory of them before they get huge.

It was slash. He was absolutely obliterated by the time he was on stage.

Best hard to say

Worst Grateful Dead (loveed them and seen 20+ times) when I slept after a great version of Sugaree that lasted 25 minutes. After 2nd song I slept til show ended as I ate way too many brownies. Got home at 11:15 and saw 4th qtr of Green Bay/Denver Monday night snow game in 1984

Best:

Probably the Ramones. Seen them three times and they kicked ass every time.

Worst:

Dave Matthews. More due to the size of the venue. Had seen him at a buddy's fraternity house literally right next to him and then to be at an amphitheater hundreds of feet away did not connect with me at all.

I love the Ramones, but I always felt they were not as good live.

WHEN did you see the stones? That would be the key for me, i'd give anything to have seen them in 69 or 72..

I have seen them 10 times. The concert in the front row was at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia in October of 05.
