"3) You say the American people have never lost so many free rights. How about detailing some of these lost rights? Then we can compare civil rights abuses of today vs civil rights abuses in the past."

This once again comes to show how incapable you are in terms or reasoning, not a bad thing per se, but very bad if you think you can reason: So, slavery was once "legal", hence since it was once legal anything goes according to your argument, since in your words: "Then we can compare civil rights abuses of today vs civil rights abuses in the past."<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

Maybe it was my mistake Jack. When Rattler says "The American people have never lost so many free rights", what does that mean to you?

I had assumed that he was comparing today's civil rights abuses with the past civil rights abuses. That's why I left an open invitation for him to list the civil rights violations of the Patriot act as well as the civil rights violations of the past. I'd like to know if he thinks slavery is less of a violation than the Patriot Act. He certainly implied it with his statement.

Off to bed Jack, so don't miss me when I'm gone. If you would like to win a few Euro's feel free to safely wager on the KC/Detroit over 9.5; pay up to -135 if you can get it at 9 runs. Have a great day.

"I have some big problems with the Patriot Act, but the hysteria over the law is rather amusing."

It's more reality than hysteria and there's really nothing amusing at all. There is a man (sorry I don't remember the name right now) that was detained in conection to the WTC attack. As I understand the situation he's been provided no trial, no lawyer, and the original suspicions that led to his arrest have been quashed, however he's still in custody. This goes against the basic principals of our legal system.

"Those fervantly opposed to this act have cried wolf countless times in their opposition to Bush, and have as a result lost any sense of credibility amoung most Americans."

A recent poll showed that over half of Americans now believe that Bush2 and his administration lied, or at least were not fully honest as far as the motives for attacking Iraq. No WMD have been found, Iraq is in shambles with no sign of stability in sight, we have no idea when our troops will finally leave, resistence to our occupation is on the rise, an incredible amount of debt has been incurred due to the strike and occupation of Iraq, unemployement is on the rise in the States, and there are even hints that the global community is losing faith in the U.S. dollar and may go to the Euro. I'd say Bush2 is the one losing credibility.

Again, you can't compare segregation, or slavery either for that matter, to what's going on now, apples and oranges. Slavery and segregation were justified under the premise that blacks were lesser and not entitled to the same constitutional rights as whites. In other words, they didn't have the same civil rights so those rights weren't there to be violated. Today we're talking about a situation in which the government can simply ignore anyone's civil rights.

But will the relentless search for homosexual love-nests lead to elevating a homophobe to the purple pantheon?

J. Edgar Hoover, the FBI chief, and his longtime companion, Clyde Tolson, were an ambiguously gay crime-fighting duo. Inseparable for 44 years, 1928-1972, the two top G-men vacationed together, often dressed similarly and continue their cohabitation even after death. They're buried alongside one another.

Not that theres anything wrong with that....
