D2,
You're right. Walking by a scalp is like not picking up a $20 lying on the ground.
Middling takes some skill, although one can get by with "rules of thumb" or an ok database.
Hedging takes patience. IMO it's harder for some guys (not me, I'm a pussy) to lay off a weak play, eat the juice and move on than it is to 'let it ride'. The other side of hedging is the futures bit, but Jazz is probably your man for that question - I'm not a futures guy.
Leads take studying. Find the injury. Watch the boards. Find the trends.
For example, I bought Bulls early today at +7.5 because I thought it has value and would open a middle. It dipped to 7 but jumped right back to 7.5, even some eights. I heged half on the Sixers because I was overexposed for a middle and a smaller hedge on the 76's ML because 90% of the Sixers games have been within 7.5 points this year.
Anyways, the point is ... use your head - not your heart.
Making money off bonuses will not get you very far. You'll end up at shady books and eventually get stiffed by guys like BetFlamingo.
There's money to be made using your heads, regardless of what Buzz insists upon.
