Basic Logic
If teams like the Lakers or Yankees are on tv, and they are having success, the ratings will be higher than normal
If you show the Grizzlies vs the Pacers, or the A's vs Rangers, then ratings wont be as well.
When the playoffs happen and the Lakers are playing on a Sunday, we'll see good ratings.
If I have money on the game or if my favorite team is playing, then there is a GREATER chance that i am watching the game

Over 6.3 million sports fans watched an exhibition golf match featuring Tom, Tiger, Phil and Payton.
Not so much for NBA or MLB as both fell off after opening day.
Advertisers are going to be wanting part of their money back for the poor ratings.
Those are constants. Comparing 1 constant in 1 year to 1 constant in another year is how you discover change and then try to assign value to variables leading to that change. This is how statistics work, yes.

That golf event was a special event involving 3 SUPERSTARS and well known athletes plus Phil. That was also (i believe) the first televised American event that uses a ball.
It was also on during a time when many were NOT allowed to leave their house (New York)
I didnt watch but heard it was pretty enjoyable
If playoffs show bad ratings, then its time to worry.
If playoffs are up against the NFL and college football, then ratings WILL be down
he posted an article only showing the ratings of one MLB game and the two opening night NBA games. As the article shows even NooseCar was up nearly 40% for their first race back and Bundesliga 1st match back broke all-time records
NBA opening night was 5.5M viewers for 2 games .... second night was 3M viewers for 2 games
opening MLB game last Thursday (single game) was 4M viewers then the 3 Friday ESPN games combined was 2.7M. uh, that ain't good yo dawg (doing my best mob impersonation)

It is funny how people on both sides cling to this ratings stuff.
Trust me, these leagues gonna be around a lot longer than all of us.
