Kevin Cash is beginning to give us flashblacks of Joe Maddon taking these starting pitchers out who are cruising along

Cash is way past Maddon (in his Rays' days)

Huge evidence that lineups seeing a pitcher third time thru increase OBP by up to 50%

Cash (and other progressive managers) are fully aware and if opponent puts tying and possible go ahead runners on base third time thru, it's usually much smarter to bring in a fresh arm, especially if that new arm can match up same side hitters for at least three of upcoming four batters

Rays, like several other teams including Yankees and Astros, are pretty much using a 15+ man pitching staff what with rotating young, qualified arms back and forth from AAA to fill the back two or three slots in the base "12 man staff"

Nice start for Nick Lowe

  • With two hits tonight, Rays 1B/DH Nate Lowe has hit safely in seven if his first eight games at the major league level. He was lifted for Guillermo Heredia in a slew of defensive realignments in the seventh

The AL East leaders improved to 2-7 in one-run games, and they're 14-5 on the road, best in the majors.

Morton (6-0) limited the Twins, who rank among the big league leaders in numerous offensive categories, to two hits before Luis Arraez doubled and scored on Ehire Adrianza’s two-out single in the fifth.

Yes, but don't forget Tommy Pham also had two hits before leaving with a right lower leg cramp.

Big series this weekend

The Rays moved to 6 1/2 games behind the Yankees, who come to the Trop for a four-game series starting Thursday.

Need a W from Charlie today

In winning their third straight game overall Saturday, the Rays (79-58) sit a percentage point behind Oakland (78-57) for the second wild card in the American League. The Indians are clinging to the top wild card.

That's a pretty damn good team, they are right on the bubble to get a wildcard into the playoffs, but could win it all.

I see the NYY being a collosal post-season failure even if they win 105 games.
I could see them getting swept in the ALDS, being like w 3:1 dog against Houston, and a 2:1 dog against the Dodgers if they somehow get past the Astros

I would need like 25:1 to bet the NYY to win the W/S

Glasnow rejoins ML pitching staff this coming weekend and could make three full strength starts before playoffs

Snell a week behind him if current rehab stays on track

Brosseau rejoins club late this week after a quick 10day trip to Durham pre-Sep1 so Rays could roll w 13 pitchers vs CLE

Yankees pitching is so sloppy that it is reasonable to see them falling to #2 seed and hosting MIN while HOU opens vs WC winner.

Also reasonable to see them losing current five game lead on MIN and giving Twins home field edge in ALDS
