Rays sign Vanilla Ice to help save season
The Tampa Bay Rays are still having trouble putting fannies in seats this season, but it's not for a lack of trying. The hometown heroes have been in — or at least close to (
stupid Yankees …) — first place all season.
Their postgame Saturday concerts have featured Dierks Bentley, John Fogerty and Nelly. And now the club has announced three free Friday postgame shows that should get people talking...or, um, chuckling.
Tantric, the Louisville band that plays
Down and Out, Evan Longoria's screechy, violin-y "walk-up" song, will rock the Trop on June 25 after the Rays-Diamondbacks tilt.
Vanilla Ice, newly revitalized thanks to
Ice Ice Baby getting mad love on
Glee, comes to town July 9 for the Rays-Indians brouhaha. (Stop smirking. You've totally checked out the hook while the DJ revolved it. In fact, I'm pretty sure I have Polaroids of you doing just that.)
And one of my favorite groups of all time, Los Lobos, will unleash the wolves of East L.A. after the Rays demolish the Yankees on July 30.
For the record, I am totally in favor of the Rays buying my affections via rock 'n' roll. And if I might add: Bob Dylan and John Mellencamp
