I'd sure like to see Paddock's account stats for the last three years. That would tell a lot. But casinos would not release them. Nothing for them to gain, but potentially a LOT to lose.
My guess is the guy was going downhill financially. And for some people, that is completely unacceptable and never their own fault. He obviously and admittedly hated being social and around people. He seemed to be the type that was bothered by people. That could have been a issue fostered from when his father ran off to prison, and his mother lied to the kids to cover up the horrible truth. He didn't want kids of his own. Not difficult to see why.
Somewhat like his father, he appears to have posessed a similar desire to become something larger than the average person he was. Take a minute and use one of the online inflation calculators. $11,000 in 1959 is about $190,000 in today's money. That is the amount his father stole at gunpoint from a Arizona bank. There were even MORE robberies after that....so obviously the father put money and glory ahead of his own wife and kids well-being. The genuine hallmark of a true Piece of S&&#. So it isn't a huge surprise that his oldest son would also inherit some of these same characteristics.
The only way someone could possibly plan out an act this horrific over a period of months (or years).....is if he felt justified. Hard to imagine the level of hatred he held against people ...... and never dealt with it honestly in 60+ years. We cannot imagine the eternal hell that guy sentenced himself to.
