Lots of talk last year about Sweden controversially No lockdown/ Herd immunity approach to handling of COVID 19. Now a year later we have Data and can compare what the lock downs have achieved or not achieved.
Ontario: pop 14.5 mil
502k Covid Cases 8405 deaths(1 per 1725)
Sweden: pop 10.2 mil
1.03 mil cases 14,267 deaths(1 per 714)
If Ontario had followed Sweden No Lockdown approach we would have had over 20,000 dead using Sweden numbers.
If Sweden had followed Ontario approach and achieved similar stats they would have roughly over 5000 deaths.
If accurate that wouldn't be surprising considering population densities. For example:
Sweden: 25 per sq. km UK: 281 per sq. km.
So the population of Sweden is, so to speak, much more - naturally distanced - and therefore much safer in that regard, than the UK.
But compared with their neighbours Finland, Norway & Denmark - which have about the same population density as Sweden, or much greater in the case of Denmark - Sweden's covid19 death toll - with its less restrictive approach - has been a colossal failure.
"Sweden had 7.7% more deaths in 2020 than its average for the preceding four years.
... Sweden did much worse than its Nordic neighbours, with Denmark registering just 1.5% excess mortality and Finland 1.0%. Norway had no excess mortality at all in 2020.
