(901) MIAMI MARLINS VS (902) NEW YORK METS
Take: (901) MIAMI MARLINS
Reason: Your Bonus Play for Sunday, July 13, 2014 is in the NL game between the Miami Marlins and NY Mets. The Marlins and Mets separated by about one game in the NL East and both chasing Washington and Atlanta for first place. Both clubs pretty similar in record and recent streaks. So why are the Mets nearly a buck-fifty favorite here on Sunday? I believe the oddsmaker giving way too much credit to Jacob deGrom. deGrom has a very good ERA of 3.38, but playing on the Mets you don't get a lot of run support and that has translated into a 2-5 record. deGrom is coming off an excellent start, holding the Braves scoreless over seven innings for the win. But the Mets haven't won many games for deGrom, in fact just three of the last 10 starts. Brad Hand is also coming off an excellent start at Arizona, holding the D'backs to no earned runs over 6 1/3 innings in a no decision. Hand has only started four games this season and two in his last ten appearances, but he's allowed just three total earned runs in those two starts over 11 1/3 innings. He also hasn't given up the long ball in either of those two starts. So again, I have to ask why such a big NY favorite? You would think a 1.45 home favorite has at least a decent home record? Nope, not deGrom who has seen Atlanta lose four of his last five starts at Shea. Two even teams, maybe a slight edge to deGrom and a big line on Mets. Value here is all on the road dog. Your Bonus Play is on the Miami Marlins.
