The Cleveland Cavaliers hope to avoid back-to-back losses when they visit the Washington Wizards in a matinee affair in the nation’s capital. In their last meeting on January 6, the Cavaliers earned a 121-115 win behind 34 points and 10 rebounds from LeBron James.

Cleveland (41-16, 25-29-3 ATS) remains in first-place in the Eastern Conference but had its lead cut to just two games over Toronto following a 99-97 loss to the Raptors on Friday. The Cavs allowed Toronto to shoot 50.7 percent from the floor and had no answer for All-Star Kyle Lowry, who finished with a career-high 43 points.

Washington (27-30, 30-27 ATS) is trying to get back to the .500 mark and into postseason play. They’re come off a split of a two game road trip thanks to a 103-94 win and cover against the NBA’s favorite punching bag, the Philadelphia 76ers. The Wizards have won four of six since the All-Star break and are back home for two straight before heading back out on the road.

Cleveland is 17-11 SU on the road this with a spread mark of 11-14-3. Washington is 14-16 as a host with a 15-15 ATS record.

The Cavs are 6-2 ATS in the last eight meetings in D.C. but just 2-5 vs. the number in the past seven overall. Meanwhile the Wizards are 4-0 ATS in their last four overall.

The Key: The Indiana Pacers are going to be hungry for a victory at home Sunday after blowing a late lead and losing in the closing seconds, 95-96, at home to the Charlotte Hornets on Friday. Now they get to face another hot team in the Blazers, who have won 12 of their last 14 games overall. But the Blazers are getting too much respect from the books due to their success of late. Plus, this is a bad spot for the Blazers, who will be playing the 2nd of a back-to-back and their 3rd game in 4 days after winning against short-handed Chicago on the road last night. The Blazers are only 12-16 on the road this season, while the Pacers are 18-10 at home. Portland is 1-12 ATS in road games against teams who are called for 21 or fewer fouls per game in the 2nd half of the season over the last 2 seasons. The Blazers are 7-19-1 ATS in their last 27 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600. There's no doubt in my mind that the Nevada Wolf Pack will be ready for the Rams as they come into Reno. Last season Colorado St. gave the Wolf Pack one of their worst losses in program history. This year, Nevada went up to Fort Collins determined to knock off CSU, and they led for most of the game. Things fell apart at the end and Nevada ended up losing. In that game they showed that they have the ability to beat the Rams, and now that they're playing at home there is a major revenge factor that comes into play. UNR is currently 10-2 at home.

Nevada will be looking to double their win total from all of last year on Sunday. New Head Coach Eric Musselman has done a fantastic job with this unit, and he doesn't even have any of his own recruits yet. The Wolf Pack have won 4 of 5 and the loss was at UNLV in a game that they should have won.

Colorado State was playing poorly before putting on a nice display in their last game, beating New Mexico at home. The Rams are a middle of the conference team, a notch or two below Nevada. When you look at all of the intangibles though this spot screams Wolf Pack. The Pack is 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games. Take Nevada.

Jack's Free Pick Sunday: Atlanta Hawks -4

The Atlanta Hawks are showing solid value as only 4-point home favorites over the Charlotte Hornets Sunday. They are undervalued right now due to losing three of their last four games coming in, and now is the time to back them.

I was on the Hawks as 7-point favorites in their 15-point home win over the Bulls on Friday, and I'll back them again here knowing that this number is shorter than it should be. The Hawks will be motivated after losing badly at Charlotte 84-107 last meeting. They had won the previous two meetings this season, and now they want to take the season series with another home victory.

Conversely, Charlotte comes into this game overvalued due to winning six of its last seven games overall. It hit a game-winner with only a few seconds remaining to win at Indiana 96-95 on Friday. The Hornets are certainly in a letdown spot after that win, and they are also in a tough spot due to the fact that this will be their 6th straight road game.

Home-court advantage has been huge in this series as the home team is 6-1 SU in the last seven meetings. Atlanta is 3-0 SU in its last three home meetings with Charlotte, winning by an average of 19 points per game. The home team is also 6-1-1 ATS in the last eight meetings. Bet the Hawks Sunday.

Tonight I expect the Mavericks to get their second win in a row vs a a Minnesota team that enters this game on tired legs after a hard fought 112-110 win vs New Orelans yesterday. The Timberwolves, have dropped nine of 10 in the second of back-of-back games. Minnesota is 6-16 ATS L/22 after scoring 110 points or more dating back to last season.

Creighton

Creighton was just upset in its last home game, Wednesday (were -7.5) by Marquette, so I would bet on the likelihood of the same thing happening again here being relatively small. Especially with it being the final home game of the year and St. John's coming to town. In fact, I would surmise this game ending up a blowout.

St. John's is atrocious. They are just 1-15 vs. the rest of the Big East (8-21 overall), that lone win coming 11 days ago at home. They followed that up w/ a close call against Seton Hall (lost by 1), but then resumed their terrible ways three nights ago w/ a 12-point loss to the one conference foe they beat (DePaul). That was their eighth double digit loss in the last 12 games. They're giving up 82.7 PPG on the road. Simply put, Chris Mullin is doing an awful job here.

Creighton won by 10 when these teams met earlier in the season, on New Year's Eve. That was enough to cover there (were -8), but they'll need a "little more" this afternoon. Thankfully, they are averaging 81.5 PPG here at home this year. The Blue Jays have covered five of the last six games against teams with losing records.

Miami Heat +2.5

These two teams are in different positions at this point in the season as the Heat are atop their division and 4th in the East sporting a 32-26 record. The Knicks are 12th in the East which puts them four spots out of the playoffs, six games out with a 25-35 record. At home the Knicks are 15-16 while the Heat are a .500 club on the road at 14-14. Miami has dropped a couple in a row while the Knicks are coming off a win, but of late the Heat are still 5-5 in their last 10 games and New York is 2-8 in their last 10 games. Miami and New York played a home and home in late November with both games going to the Heat by 15+ points, but in January the Knicks went in to Miami and beat the Heat 98-90. In this final meeting of the season look for Miami to go into the Garden and return the favor for that January loss as Wade goes nuts at the Garden and shines under the bright lights of Broadway.

Anaheim Ducks

The Anaheim Ducks have won seven straight overall, and six straight at the Duck Pond.

Their last home loss came against the L.A. Kings by a score of 3-2 back in mid January. The Kings have won four straight, and they've surrendered just three goals in those games.

Here are my keys to the game:

1. Previous History - The Ducks have won four of the last five meeting in this series, and they are 21-6 in their last 27 overall.

2. Special Teams - The Ducks boast one of the league's top power-plays, ranking 8th overall in the league with a 21.1 percent conversion rate. Anaheim is 10-for-24 (41.7 percent) on the man-advantage over their last seven games.

3. X-Factor - The Ducks are an NHL best 14-1-1 in their last 16 games, and they've averaged 3.81 goals per game during that span.

Lorenzo Romar led U-Dub to six NCAA appearances in eight years (2004-11) but 18, 17 and 16-win seasons the last three years (5-13 in Pac 12 play last year), created mounting pressure on the head coach in Seattle at the start of a season in which only senior guard Andrews returned from last year’s starting-five. However, a high-profile freshman class has provided valuable support for Andrews, who averages 20.3-5.9-4.6. Freshman guards Murray (15.1-6.1-4.4) and Crisp (7.6) plus forwards Chriss (13.2-5.3), Dickerson (8.0-5.6) and Thybulle (6.4 have all ‘arrived.’ Throw in 6-9 JUCO transfer Dime (6.7-5.6) and Romar couldn’t possibly have hoped for more from his “new guys!”

The Huskies jumped out to a 5-1 start in the Pac-12 play but with just two games remaining, Washington is 8-8 in league play with only a place in one of the three-lettered tourneys in its postseason future. Oregon (22-6 / 11-4 in the Pac-12) owned a seemingly comfortable three-game lead on Utah in the Pac-12 race following a 76-66 win over the Utes on Feb 7 but ensuing road losses at California and Stanford provided an opening that the Utes have seized with six straight wins to move to 12-5 in league play. With California (10-5) and Arizona (10-6) also within striking distance, Oregon still has some work to do to earn its first regular-season conference championship since 2001-02. After facing the slumping Huskies tonight at home, the Ducks play their final two on the road against UCLA and USC.

The Ducks regrouped after losses to Cal and Stanford with back-to-back victories over Oregon State and Washington State at Matthew Knight Arena, where they've won a school-record 24 straight (17-0 this year) after topping the last-place Cougars 76-62 on Wednesday. 6-6 forward Dillon Brooks (17.2-5.8-3.1) has led the team all season. Freshman guard Tyler Dorsey (13.2-4.1) starts in the backcourt with PG Benson (5.7-3.1 APG), while 6-6 forward Elgin Cook (13.8-4.4) and the 6-10 Boucher (12.6-7.1-2.7) start up front. The 6-7 Benjamin (8.5) and the now healthy 6-9 Bell 6.7-5.1) provide depth up front.

A visitor winning at Matthew Knight Arena is a tough assignment (see above) and considering Washington has allowed a whopping 89.3 PPG in eight Pac-12 road contests, winning in Eugene seems unlikely. In fact, “staying close” also seems unlikely. Lay it!
