Most experts will tell you the most important players on a team are the offensive line and cornerbacks. Those are the players that dictate the game as the OL determines if the QB and RB can get their plays in and the corners can determine if the opponent is able to effectively throw the ball. I would have to agree, a guy like Portis would be half the player he is if he had a poor line blocking for him. Look at Brett Favre today versus the Super Bowl years, the line just isn't what it was.
If you're looking at the long-term, next 10 years, Michael Vick. It's no lock for Vick but he has the biggest upside of anybody if he matures into QB position which it takes minimum of 4 years for 95% of pro QBs to do.
