I know he works in the day and really asking for the updated standings in the middle of the night is asking for too much so I would never do that. People make mistakes so I would never judge SS if he made a grading mistake.

As for the reference about saying things that weren't true. Really isn't every poster like that in certain regards? We give opinion on things, very few points that I even bother to open my mouth about I have said are truths just my opinion, some could be wrong and if you tell me something at the time is wrong and you tell me the truth I would take it at face value but I don't believe im off base all the time but that is neither here or there nor a matter for this forum or this topic.

All I'm saying is at times things are assumed that are really off base, but we can't say anything, or it would be in our best interest not to defend....plus explaining things in this realm can be taken out of context which happens too.

We will try and do a better job, that is all I can say.

Ill chime in on this, but I did notice the other day when FairWarning lost the Cardinals as a -174 favorite he actually posted the line as -178. If we are going to stick to the rules than his loss on Sunday with the Cardinals should not have been graded. I know that this opens up a whole new can of worms, but we have also had Puckhandler post a couple of plays that werent graded when he posted the wrong line.I am Just pointing it out since we are trying to decide who had what and who is where. I was in this contest last year and enjoyed it throughly. I say we work out the bugs the first month than from than on we know what is what. Once again. I am not siding with anyone, but the loss that Fairwarning had on Sun should not have been graded since he posted a wrong line. Rules are rules. Best of luck to all and may the best man win. I realize we are human and we arent perfect.

Pubs$

This is why we need to just 'copy and paste' the posted line so we all are on the same page, it's easier anyway....I don't think we have a serious problem...and I hope we can get this straight, it's much easier to copy and paste the line....the rules may need to be ammended , sometimes a rule is actually counterproductive and I think that is what we have here....

The rule was made assuming everyone would post the correct line , not be off by a digit.

I miss these things when grading, you are right, that should be no action if it happened exactly as you say it.....

I count on everyones eyes, if you see this in the future, please dont hesitate to post in the standings thread and it will be corrected immediatly.

We are all extra lucky that Calvin TY is also grading this contest so we have a double verification, however, he was away and hadnt graded for a few days.....

951 Phillies -130
971 Tampa Bay-116
980 White Sox -140

On the day in question it also looks like Fairwarnings first play which lost was actually a NO ACTION since he posted -130 and it was -133

As I see it Fairwarning is gonna make units on these mistakes....

He is -86 units for the 22nd instead of +70,

however,

he is +174 for sunday as he was graded a loss when he posted a line of -174, but the line was actually -178....

Just like the puckhandler precedent earlier in the contest this needs to be corrected aswell.

Okay, I don't know if my interpretation will help here but let me chime in with what I have done.

If I see a poster that mistyped a number that is off by only a couple of numbers off on the FINAL digit (like 169 instead of 166; or 174 instead of 178), I go by the concept that we ALL use the contest LINES & that as long as the correct rotation number and team name is clearly posted, I do recognize that pick as an 'acceptable' pick.

HOWEVER, like in Puckhandler's situations (two times), he transposed the OPPONENT's lines while pasting the other team's name/rotation number so we have no way of confirming WHICH team he meant to pick.

That's how I look at it. Obviously we all should copy/paste.. but if someone chooses to type and make a typo on a couple of numbers off the final digit, then it's "still acceptable" but pointed out.

My 5 cents.

The bottom line is we don't want anyone to get screwed on some technicality, so we need to iron this out once and for all....it's not that hard.

thats not how I interpret it.... to me any MISPOST in rotation number or LINE is NO ACTION....

wether they win or LOSE.....

This is how I have been grading and how I graded Puckhandler (of course I may have misses some but this was the intention)

This is a long standing grading rule I have been using back 2 years ago when JOH was grading contests. It is precedent here at the RX

Okay, got it. I read you. Even a mistype of LINE will be graded NO ACTION; I'll make a mental note of that now.

if you know of any other occurrences where this happened let me know
Will do. Since my file has all the contest lines, I can quickly skim over the daily picks threads & see if I find anything else. I just hope that I really don't find anything, smiles.

Sadly the mods didn't say anything one way or another. I hope they can update you on that later tonight.

I also am disappointed Jman, but for everyone who doesnt appreciate things as much, there are at least 9 others who do... I get tons of Thank you emails and posts, but I know what you mean, I get worked up when these types of posts are made also....

sadly... wtf :think2:

Today is the 29th, Jman and I had already talked about this and had decided to leave it to emails for the last day of the month only, there are 31 days in May.

It was on my agenda to discuss it further with Jman tonight and announce it, it was gonna be in the picks thread on the 31st.

Last year, there was no emailing of plays at all and everything worked out fine, nobody got their panties tied up in a know, people have to chill out here and have fun.... let us administer the contest, JMAN AND I and keep your fingers out of the kitchen.....

If you want to send suggestions by email to both of us with constructive criticism, go ahead.... but complaining in contest threads is not kool.

If we have not proven to run these things better than any other forum over the past several years, then some of the vets who know this should consider that before entering.

if you know of any other occurences where this happened let me know
I was not at computer for a while until just now (idle) but I did find the situation that I vaguely remembered about a poster typed an incorrect number. It was this post:

I actually thought it was off by 3 instead of 1. It was graded a loss instead of no action. This is an example where I simply used the contest line anyway.

Other than SportSavant notifying some users during the first few days of the contest to remember to INCLUDE the rotation number, there was only 1 other instance where I did not realize this could open a new can of worms, but uhhhhhhhh, interesting dilemma in this post below:

Evidently, it was just a matter of forgetting to post the LINES, but if we were to re-grade it differently now, there'd be a problem. While knowing the results shouldn't matter, but this particular post was graded 3-0, FYI. I would recommend it to be left that way.

Note: To see which thread those posts come from, just press the # post number seen inside each post.

I actually had 2 picks on Sunday I believe that I didnt post the lines in my email to JMAN as well. Of course they both lost so no one said anything.

And of course I lost +200 points earlier this month when my last two picks didnt show up due to a typing mistake. But I quickly noticed the problem and tried to fix it 15 minutes later. Of COURSE people noticed this AFTER the 2 plays won and I was real near the leader at that time.

I would recommend to just stick totally by your rules about posting the lines. Once they make one mistake, they will never make it again!!

I learned from my mistake.

I also think that it is a bad idea to email picks. It is too hard on the mods and could create a bit of drama as well!
