The Beckett price guide may say a card is worth $100 in mint condition but if nobody will give you more than $25 for it then it is only worth $25.

I mostly buy now but I also sell cards at time. I learned back in the 80's not to grow fond or hold on to any card unless it had sentimental value for me and I knew I would never sell that card at any price.

I would not pay more than 10 to 15 PERCENT of what the value is for that card. There are many cards to be had at that price. It allows you to sell a card if you receive a decent offer of 40 to 50 Percent of the list price and still make a profit.

book value is for retards, cash value is the most important factor in the hobby. people who go by book value are the ones with items that dont sell well, but still carry a high book value because beckett hasnt bothered or noticed to adjust the price on older guys (say byron leftwich for example). he might book 100 on a given card and sell for $10, while jay cutler might book 100 and sell for 55, is trading the cutler for leftwich a wise idea? no
