Speaking Marcus Smart, where should the line be drawn?

If the fan had fell backwards and broke his neck from the shove it would have ruined Smart's life. Verbal assault should NEVER lead to physical violence. You never know what it could lead to when you throw the first punch. Especially with this gun crazy society.

So we should also never verbally assault anyone because that could lead to a life ending shove or someone pulling a gun

Verbal assault never justifies physical battery. I think the kid got the right punishment. Especially since he's missing out on the Pokes 3 most critical games of the year.

There is no word in the Human language that gives permission for you to hit them.

I find it pathetic the angle and/or idea that if u use n***** that a black can now hit u? Lol

My issue Moocow, is the reporter was debating what was said, and in his report, he eluded to if the white guy used N*****, then its his fault??<< WTF?? which is FKNG preposterous,,

there is never never a scenario where words beget violence, especially inthis situation,,

My issue with this isn't the race.....it is the age. Grown mad vs kid.

if this were an elderly black man and a young white boy I'd feel for the white boy. Either case the kid would be called a thug imo, but I expect the grown up to know better. 19 year old kids are stupid in general all ethnicities

Dude better grow up fast in 1 year. Being 19 is plenty old enough to learn to hold your rage back. Self control should be in control by your middle teens.

On the same note, the fans are supposed to heckle. Other than wishing death I just don't see the big deal.

This is kind of my point for starting the thread. Personally at 19 I was immature as hell. I think throughout college I was much more stupid than I am today. But what age is it ok? You say middle teens so if he were a few years younger (jr in high school) then it isn't as bad?

and on the same note, I don't know at what age it is okay to heckle. Personally, I think in pro sports it is ok. For kids not getting paid, I don't like it. high school, college, jv, etc. I can see yelling at refs and maybe making noise to distract the other team, but heckling students is not something I approve of

Common knowledge that most are more mature than they were at 19. There is still a difference from flying off your rocker and attacking someone for name calling. Could be found more in a thuggish or honky tonk situation rather than a player in college that can't keep his cool. That shows that he has some mental weaknesses that may or may not effect his draft status. I know it would in the NFL, but not sure how much of a factor that the mental aspect is needed in the NBA by an organization.

I for one see this as a major flaw in a player. If I were an owner there is no way in hell I am spending millions on someone that gets distracted this easy.
