If you know anything about computers you know that companies use email to reach out to people. Companies that allow you to have your name removed from there mailings and then send you no further mail are not spamming you.

JMAN, I wouldnt look for olympic to EVER deal the 10 cent baseball line. Why would they need to? It would only cost them money since people play baseball with them anyway, well I guess except for you and me. But then again, the books dont care about us anyway

Borat, In most cases, going to a site and using their "Remove me" feature will only draw more spam mail from their affiliates as your telling them that the email address they spammed you at is active...

Here's a shocker for you, the people who make pop up blocker's are the same people who make the pop up's

WOW,IM SHOCKED. C'mon please. I know where your' coming from I am aware of what you said concerning the pop ups. The keyphrase here is "in most cases". If you tell Oly not to send you something I am sure they won't. Some folks are confusing the issue. Not you. If a company didn't use email nowadays they would be considered a backward company. I hate spammers too.But let's not equate a company sending out emails to it's customers with spammers.

Unbelievably, I have been spammed by Olympic again. Here's the headers:

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>

Do you assert that this did not come from you? This bulky (45k) HTML newsletter which claims,

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>
You received this email as a member of Olympic Sports. If you do not want to receive email correspondences in the future, please log into your account, click account services - update account info, uncheck "allow email to account on file" and click the update button.
<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

However, I do not have an account with Olympic.

To add insult to insult, when I click on the above link provided by Karol to unsubscribe, it says that my address is not currently subscribed to the list. So I have an account, but I don't, and I'm receiving a newsletter for which I have never asked, but I'm not in the database.

In other words, I am being spammed. Maybe not actually by Olympic.

Note that the sending IP, 208.138.36.10, is different from the IP to which thegreek.com resolves, which is 140.99.101.116; and is registered to a different owner (Cable & Wireless of Jamaica, vs. Olympic Sports Data Services, Ltd., which is also located in Jamaica.) Perhaps you're being spoofed, or perhaps CWJ is your ISP. Perhaps you should complain to CWJ if the former scenario is the case.

I received an email from Karol, who told me that since I had an account at one time with OLYMPIC, that's the reason they sent me their newsletter...

She also informed me if I wanted to get removed, I could...

I appreciate the effort made by OLYMPIC and KAROL to take the time to explain this to me by email...

I too appreiate Karol's efforts at rectifying this problem, and as I said above I concede that the headers indicate that someone may be spoofing Oly since the IP does not match Oly's server (of course it could also simply be a seperate server for site hosting and marketing mail, given that they both are located in Jamaica ... but I'm nothing if not open-minded.)

I have never had an account with Olympic. I have never joined an e-mail list requesting additional information from Olympic. The instructions posted in this thread for opting out of the mailing list do not work, and the mail makes the obviously incorrect assertion that I am an Oly accountholder. Despite my somewhat surly tone I am only trying to make Oly aware of a problem, that either someone in marketing or someone with whom they have an affiliate arrangement is engaging in irresponsible practices which could cost them their hosting and/or list server.
