As much as I wanted Korea to win, I was pretty realistic about tonight's game. I just had a funny feeling Korea was gonna have problems, as they always do against Japan. Japan has problems against Korea too, but not as much as Korea.
I thought Bong chose the worst day to have an off-night. Korea's defense helped him out as much as it could, but ultimately, when the entire batting lineup gets a crack per inning, the odds are stacked against you. It's like giving Japan 3 innings, against Korea's 1 inning, where three guys unfailingly struck out. The only thing Bong was consistent at, was digging himself in a hole by loading up the bases. He was playing Russian roulette.
As if the depth of Japan's pitching staff wasn't enough of an edge, Korea's batters came awfully close to homeruns on numerous occasions. But that's really a credit to Iwakuma, who also did an amazing job of suppressing runs for Korea. Thus, everytime Korea scored a HR, it would only acquire one point. If Japan had some legit sluggers like Tae Kyun Kim, they would've probably blown out Korea.
In the end, Japan's superior pitchers were the difference.
