FZ,

why not copy and paste this one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeffersonian_democracy

The free-market is almost always often the most efficient. And the free-market is strongest when everyone is given the opportunity to contribute. It is the economic version of checks and balances. We don't let a fire in one home burn down the neighborhood because the check to the fire department didn't clear

just because cgold says you socialism has never worked, does not mean it hasn't been working well in America for more than a couple centuries

Very well put, TGS

Everywhere I've ever lived as a tax paying adult (34 years now) the citizens socially combine their assets for the collective good, paying for everything from roads to utility right of ways to subsidizing businesses, feeding the hungry, housing the impoverished, providing medical assistance to those in need. Any of us could add a long list to the one I just wrote wherein American citizens pool their resources under various forms of government oversight for the benefit of the collective good.

And it's a key reason why I consider America to be a great place to live and to operate businesses.

The history of thanksgiving

The history of Thanksgiving teaches us that if there was an Indian or Pilgrim who couldn't provide every thing necessary for themselves, the group coming together and working together would make sure that everyone had a good meal

Like when I explain exactly how it is possible to be fat and hungry, you simply bury your head in the sand and stick to believing your own lies and delusions. It is clear the only reason you hate Obama so much is because you know that you two are so similar

Being the Goddess of Wisdom can't be all that bad, save for the Goddess part. At the end of the day, it's a man's world. With exceptions for the likes of Punted and GTC of course.

Fair observation. However in our lifetime, the state provides a large amount of public goods and a very significant part of infrastructure. This translates into the USA being a rather balanced combination of capitalitism and socialism.

Thus anyone griping that one or the other being a bad force is someone that is simply ignoring the beneficial contributions of both in our 21st century society.

FZ and others, help me out on this one

In the modern capitalist state, legislative action is confined to defining and enforcing the basic rules of the market,[7][8] though the state may provide some public goods and infrastructure

So what defines which state sponsered goods and infrastructure is socialism and what is capitalism? Why is free education capitalism, but free health care is socialism? Why is free trash pickup and tap water below market value capitalism, but free condoms and needle exchange programs are socialism?

How about enough energy assistance so someone doesn't freeze to death? Or bread and peanut butter so they don't starve? Or housing projects and mental hospitals so we don't trip over them as they beg for change? All that takes a few pennies away from private wealth and gives it away without any concern for profits

Whatever the definition is, Americans and American government have been doing it for a very long time

The Democrats are taking the money and other stuff from the Republican people and are giving it up to the poor Democratic's (who don't work cause they were tossed our of school or just left) as pay back for their votes. This is not good at all.
