I wonder how much stoppage time there will be in the Netherlands/Portugal game in the 2nd half...

There has been literally nothing going on on the field in 10 of the last 15 minutes... I wonder if they will just slap 3 minutes on and call it a game?

There is one rule they absolutely positively must change.

The World Cup cannot be decided on penalty kicks, PERIOD.

That's like breaking a tie in football with kickers kicking FG's from the 40,

or deciding the World Series with a home run derby contest

or deciding the NBA finals with a slam dunk contest

play on, conditioning will matter and the game should be decided the way it's played.

As for the rest of the rules, they don't need to be changed, there just needs to be better officiating.

Jack,

How would stopping the clock stop the flow of the game? I mean if the ref has stopped play, isn't the flow stopped then anyways?

Where's the scoring? This sport has got to be the most boring sport ever its like Hockey. Where's the excitement in this sport? Some guy gets tackled and he lays there crying just get up you little *****. They need to increase the scoring in this game. Its like pulling teeth just trying to score. Atleast in basketball there is more scoring. How can you sit there and watch 2 teams end the game in 0-0 draw? Its a complete waste of time!

This is the biggest problem that people have with soccer in the States. Here in america we like our sports to get to the point and score as often as possible. We have become addicted to the big play. Soccer is about the setup and the development of the play. It's as much of a mental game as it is a physical game. "the beautiful game" is all about the flow and movement around the field. The scoring is much more difficult than anything we have here and the payoff is proportionally sweeter. If you cant enjoy a game like the France South Korea match that ended in a tie last week then, quite simply, soccer is not for you.

Well said, completely agree :toast:

To anybody who thinks soccer's a boring sport because of it's low scoring affairs, and would rather watch NFL "football", have you ever thought about NFL's scoring system??? I think it's a damn joke that actually makes NFL seem more exciting than it really is.

You get 6 pts for a touchdown and 1 extra point for a field goal? Seriously, which clown came up with those figures? Why not 2 or 3pts for a touchdown, or 9pts if you really wanna inflate it?

In the sport of real football, you get ONE point for ONE goal. That's it! Not 3pts if you make a goal from the midfield or 2pts if you make it from the top of the box. ONE GOAL, ONE SHOT, THAT'S IT. Like Jimmy said, the buildup to the goal is hellava exciting thing to watch whether there's a goal or no goal. It's a beautiful game and if you don't like it or think it's boring as fuck then don't watch it. Baseball's on and football's about to start soon, so wait for that.

Now i'm not saying I don't like NFL football. I enjoy NFL a lot, but always thought their scoring system was a bunch of senseless shit.

In that sense, it reminds me of baseball. Many people find baseball boring. I love the strategy of "every pitch". I hate to see guys making bad/stupid decisions. Baseball is a mental game, if played properly.

all you whiners about soccer rules and the game.....you guys are so americanized!

Football...yes its football...not soccer, is a wonderful game and it is fine as it is. Ties happen only in group stage...in the knock out stage they play overtime and if the game is still tied it goes to penalty shoot out.

All i see here is bunch of bet losers who are whining because they lost their bets :)

It is a boring sport for the weak who are not tough enough physically to play the real football. Every time there is contact they whine like little babies.

If you are European, Australian or South American play rugby not fagball aka soccer.

There's nothing wrong with being Americanized. Its not football, its soccer. Just look at what section you posted in. There is absolutely no reason for any games to end in a tie. Not if this is such a huge event as so many claim it to be. There is also no reason to not stop the clock. Stoppage time is just senseless. If the ref can stop the game, then the clock can be stopped. All the faking of injuries is a joke too. I've never seen so many people being taken off in stretchers in my entire life, only to be miraculously cured with the magic spray. If all this injury faking garbage wasn't a problem they wouldn't need to have a penalty for diving. Even the soccer powers that be can tell that its gotten out of hand. The refs in this thing are a joke too, I'd be willing to be a few are on the take. And what kind of way to decide a game is penalty kicks? Thats like the NBA or NCAA using a free throw shooting contest to decide basketball games that go into OT.
