If you don't mind me asking, what kinda percentage are you hitting to stay in the black? How big are your units?

I don't mind talking about the horses since I don't bet them anymore. When I was betting horses I bet 5K to win if it looked really good or 1K to win if I was not sure. I had a very high win percentage (in 2007 it was 70% or so) but most of my bets were favorites so I had to bet big to make any money. There were really only three places I could bet ... Pinnacle, Bookmaker/CRIS and Diamond. Pinnacle pulled out of the US, Bookmaker has cut my limits to $300 maximum in horses. To be honest the horse system was not doing as well this year as it should have been. But I had a big July so they cut my limits. Also I hit them pretty hard last year. I cannot make money at the $300 level. I contacted Diamond and they said no way (sister book to Bookmaker). I was very depressed for a while.

After struggling for a few months and busting my ass researching sports betting methods I have finally found a few things that work. I have a science background and am a decent researcher. December is going to be a very good month and I expect it to continue that way for as long as the books will let me bet. There is really no way the plan can fail.

As far as the specifics about the sports betting I am doing right now I would rather not get into details. All I can say is that I wish I had been doing this years ago. Bookmaker did me a favor.

What books have cut you off for betting horses? Not very smart ones for sure....

You should know! You work there, I think. Bookmaker and Diamond both limit me to $300 max bet in horses. I had a big year in 2007 and my rebate was taken away. Then this year was not as good, but I had a big July and that is when my limits were cut to $300. I understand that you are running a business so no hard feelings, but it really did kill my earnings for 2008. Even though I am having good December, it has taken me months to learn how to win at sports and I lost a lot of money trying to figure it out. I am probably going to lose money this year.

Here is the pop up I get now when I log into my account:

Viejo, if you don't mind being honest with me, I would like to know if Bookmaker will eventually limit me in sports after I win for a long period? If so is it based on dollar amount or length of time or what? Just trying to plan ahead.

.....Yeah Bookmaker and Diamond are solid outs..I would not sweat the limits though..If you are..why not join one of 30-40 solid pay books that are out there...theres a few others who take horses and pay with no BS

Most of the other books have limits even lower than $300 in horses. Ehorse goes up to $1000 but only on the biggest tracks. There is really no place for me to bet offshore now in horses.

But I am not crying about it. I really like the sports better now that I found a way to win. Like I said before they did me a favor.

I have been a professional gambler and have filed a tax return for the last 34 years. I wouldn't advise anyone to follow the path I have chosen. Period. Good Luck

Why not, hell you know everything and you play golf with the president twice a week at augusta.

You've got 10 outs laying 05 3 laying 07.

You can run 6 miles in 45 minutes after drinking 10 beers the night before of course you're blessed with great genetics.

LOL Only kidding but I've got a memory like a fkn elephant.

As long as it's a major sport and you are willing to lay -10, you can wager at your max limits forever. :103631605

For Icemantbi:

I think the $250 is good value. For that you get 2 terrestrial TV channels with no commmercials whatsoever, as the licence is used to fund the BBC.

Great value, would completely agree on that. BBC is doing a really good job with that money (great documentaries for example). In Germany they charge you abou 340$ a year to fund their channels and have a bigger budget than BBC, but the quality of their programme isn't even close to the one by BBC.
Besides gambling another point I envy you Brits :103631605

Haven't worked in over a year, and over 2 years at CRIS...you lay -110 in sports and you won't get cut....Got a feeling Fathead that you wanted full limits at off tracks and trying to bet house Q's....am I close?

I never bet any exotics, just Win bets mainly. Every once in a while I would bet Place and even Show but this was rare. My research always pointed to the Win bet as being the moneymaker.

The betting limit to Win on horses at Bookmaker depends on the track. It is either $5000 or $1000. Sometimes I would have to bet $1000 when I intended to bet $5000, but it usually was not a big problem. At $300 I cannot make any real money and I guess looking at my betting patterns it was easy to figure that out. I had quite a run Fall of 2007 and I suppose they were afraid I would go on another tear this year. Not sure exactly what Bookmaker's reasoning was other that I was a bad risk in the horses.

Thanks for the reassurance about not getting limits cut if I bet sides. At least with sports I have more books to choose from if for some reason I am limited. A lot more flexibility than with the horses.

By the way, I see how you are trying to help those who might be having payout mixups or other problems at Bookmaker/CRIS and I am sure it is appreciated by all.

more make a livin bookin than bettin
what does that tell you?

Bingo. There are a few here that make their living in sportsbetting but they are answering the phones, not placing the bets. Maybe a couple poker pros and some who are semi-professionals, those who make money doing this but have other sources of income, but very very few who do nothing but bet sports day in and day out. Very very few. The one's that are here do more reading than posting. They keep an eye on the industry and current about offshore books but they aren't posting plays to show everyone how smart they are.

Great posts Whale, Belly, VD, and McIrish, as you hit upon most of the pertinent truths.

Very very few make it strictly as sportsbettors, most are currently still putting-pen-to-pad, bankrolling a shop of clerks, or were BMs at some point along their way.

And, either way, the vast majority of their industry friends have better had their doors kicked-in at least a few times, and you live on the phones with plenty of RICO-ACTers, if you are to be working with the right folks and best info.

But, you all know this.

Okay, thanks. I guess I missed it.

What I ended up doing was joining Don Best for a 7 day free trial and then I was able to download last season's data on NBA and NFL. That has given me plenty to look at for now. If I need more data I will contact you if it is okay. I will add you to my buddy list so I won't forget.

Thanks for the help.
