didn't the republicans have congress and the presidency for a while? why didn't we lift the ban on domestic drilling then?

(serious question)
They did, however democrats said they would filibuster drilling.

Don't forget Katrina, Mission Accomplished, and a drunken Cheney shooting his friend in the face.

AS if you know a single fucking thing about Katrina except what the shitty media spewed about New Orleans. I lived through it...except I lived where the storm REALLY hit...in Mississippi.

We all went without power, food, water, supplies etc. Did you see any of us crying about "Where the govoment at..where the govoment at?"

We helped our neighbors, fought through it and now are in a prospering community once again. Woulda been REAL easy to ask for a handout and do absolutely nothing but blame George Bush...give me a damned break...

It never gets old watching the "JoeC" brain in action...especially when it's in the same thread

MARK L Contrarian Version 1: There was a strong push for it but Republicans only had 55 seats in the Senate.

MARK L Version 2 - Ever since the Democrats won in 06 (giving them a big 49 seats in the Senate), the country has gone in the shitter.

SH: So 55 seats is insufficient to create needed change, but apparently 49 seats is enough to put the country in the shitter.

It takes 60 votes to break a filibuster.

You and I both know that.

I'm noting the comedy of Mark/Joe defending Republican having insufficient muscle when they had 55 Senators and in the same thread telling us that Democrats with just 49 Senators somehow have the muscle to screw things up without anyone to stop them.

"barnman" has no idea what the fuck he's talking about.

He thinks winning a debate is putting words in other's people's mouths, and then shooting them down. Ohhhh...clever. :missingte

His intellectual dishonesty is flabbergasting.

The biggest reason why I don't debate him anymore is how shamelessly he LIES, along with his vicious distracting ad hominem attacks against other posters. 3/4 of the time he's posting high as a kite. No wonder half the forum has him on Ignore.

The good news is the :coke: will be out of here by Nov at the very latest.

Your average blue collar worker really got hurt by the actions of this administration..At the same time they were making it more dangerous on the job for blue collar and factory workers, they were trying to get federal Workman's Compensation laws passed that would have made it more difficult for an work-related injured employee to get it, and for less recovery time allowed from workplace injuries. Along with limiting the dollar amount for compensation...I'm pretty sure they got these laws passed after I retired...I'm very grateful I no longer have to work a job like that with this kind of nonsense going on..The Republican Congress and the Bush Administration had total disregard for the hard working citizens of this country.

Since Democrats took over Congress in 2006...

Up:

* Gasoline up from $2.19 to $3.35 or 53%
* Unemployment up from 4.5% to 5% or 11.1%
* National dept per capita was $27,677 then and now $31,551 or 14% higher.
* Congressional pay increase.

Down:

* Consumer confidence at multiple year lows.
* Equity value of mutual funds down $2.3 trillion.
* Home equity values down $1.2 trillion
* Congress's approval rating at all time low.

No wonder the Democrat Congress has a 9% approval rating and Nancy Pelosi has only sold 2,070 copies of her new book.

Remember folks, 2006 was all about 'change' according to Democrats. And since the 2006 election, we've gotten plenty of 'change' alright -- none of it good.

Indeed, it is likely that a Democrat victory in 2008 will result in Americans having nothing but 'change' in their pockets and bank accounts by the time the next presidential election comes around because the Pelosi-Reid-Obama Democrats are promising to rob everyone blind.

Can America really afford any more of the "change" that the Democrats have given us?

lame. you should bank Joe C's answer for further use as "things can and do change" is retarded.

you don't wait for gun control until a record number of people are killed... do you really believe your party is simply reactionists who are too busy defending themselves against the left?

simply was not as urgent as it is today... give me a break. will it be urgent when mccain takes office?

unlike all of you i am undecided which is why i ask questions. joe's answer makes sense if it is actually true (no offense but come on down here you never know) but too busy defending themselves against liberals, it simply was not important till it became important... that shit stinks.

"Lame" :lol:

Things can and do change is a fact of life, and political infighting is a fact of life in Washington. Important issues are not addressed because they would be political suicide. It's all about reelection survival to most politicians.

I wasn't defending them, and I wasn't trying to influence your vote, I was just talking about reality.

They've had debates and votes on offshore drilling before, but it wasn't front and center in the nation's consciousness as it is today. Most Americans didn't support offshore drilling until recently. The recent surge in prices has changed the dynamics of the debate, if you don't understand that, well that's pretty "lame".

Ever since Democrats won in 06, the economy has gone into the shitter.

They haven't passed any budgets to bring this about. I don't think very many bills were passed at all.

At least W got his veto pen out and tried to curtail spending for the first time in his presidency.

I don't see much difference between your words and the facts - that Democrats have limited supply through restraints on development of new drilling sites and a ban on expanding refinery capacity - all this while demand has continually gone up - for the past fifteen years, their answer for continued support of such limits has been that it would take decades to develop new sourtces.

The Republicans are guilty of allowing the Democrats to do this without any sound opposition until this last session of congress.

We can lay the blame for the energy crisis on the Democrats - while holding the Republicans guilty of stupidity.
