ok that makes things easier

theorically it will just WORK

however if they need to know the MAC address all you have to do is look at the router (normally there is a sticker underneath that has the MAC address) and tell them

ok the MAC address for me, NES , subscriber ID blabla is .....and you start reading it to them

Sooooooooo.......my internet is on and I can access the PlayStationNetwork and the PS3 web browser without a problem, but when I unhook the ethernet cable and hook it to the laptop I cant seem to get explorer to work. I tried the unplug modem, wait three minutes, continue approach to no avail. Any suggestions for a guy who is publicly admitting that he is dumbass when it comes to computers?

in internet explorer go to tools/internet options/connections/lan settings make sure that its set to "automatically detect settings"

if it was not , then set it, close the browser and open it again

if that doesnt work

click on

start>>run

then put cmd, click enter

that will open a black box (command prompt for the computer iliterates)

type

ipconfig -all

click enter

that will show a bunch of shit

what we want to make sure here is that the computer is getting an IP from the router

read us what it says under 'ip address'

there will be more than one set of 'settings'

the one we want is something like 'ethernet local area connection'
