very disappointed in the VH1 two week special of SNL... they chopped it down to a hr a episode.. most every episode the musical guest was excluded... not sure why a music channel would cut out the music for some overrated comedy...just my 2 cents
With the exception of Paul McCartney they really shit the bed with their musical guests..

The show was horrible. The opening with Timberlake and Fallon was really weird and it didn't get any better. You can tell they just had all these big name guys show up and read a few lines off a cue card. No new skits, they didn't even really replay any of the good old skits. Seinfeld and Larry David were good, Louis CK was funny, but they're not even really SNL guys. Eddie Murphy basically just stood there? Kanye, really?

Didn't watch it. That show has been living off reputation for decades. When did it turn to absolute shit? The 90's? Can't remember.

But I remember it was like the best thing out there. Then all of a sudden they had no stars and since then it's been forever trash. The only good thing
that spun out of it was Will Farrell.

I DVR'd a few shows in the 90's episodes last week on the VH1 classic celebration... I saw 1 musical performance out of maybe a dozen shows.....very disappointed with the scissors they took to those shows

everyone, [critics, viewers, network execs] has been predicting the demise of snl for the last 40 yrs.
if nothing else Lorne Micheals has a uncanny eye for spotting and developing talent.

I miss Dana Carvey. I've always thought he was the funniest and most versatile comedian they had on that show. Overall it was a pretty bad show with only a few good zingers thrown in few and far between. The Jeopardy bit was pretty good. When the Sean Connery character said he was pissing in the snow and it was in Trebek's moms handwriting, that one got me. Plus I'll take Le Tits Now for $800 Alex...

would have been great to have eddie in a skit . maybe a james brown celebrity hot tub with some of the big names. would have liked to see a barry gibb talk show skit with some other names.. i think they missed the boat for sure..

taylor swift in the californians was idiotic... although she is looking more and more fuckable these days..

The NBA All-Star Game faced stiff competition for eyeballs on Sunday night, as the "Saturday Night Live 40th Anniversary Special" drew huge television viewership numbers.

The NBA All-Star Game drew a 5.5 rating, according to Nielsen, up 12 percent from last year's game.

The special, which brought back some of the biggest names in the show's history, garnered a 14.2 household rating on NBC versus a 5.5 rating for the All-Star Game on TNT and TBS, according to the 56 markets monitored by Nielsen.
The rating for the SNL show translated into 23.1 million viewers from 8-11:30 p.m. ET. The program was shown on tape delay for the West Coast, which might have turned into a positive for the NBA.
Turner Sports averaged 7.2 million viewers, but the overnight rating was still up 12 percent versus last year's broadcast, the network said.
This year's NBA All-Star Game overnights still beat out the metered ratings for seven of the previous 10 games.
It was a closer battle on Twitter, where 1.3 million tweets were sent out about the SNL special versus 1.1 million on the NBA All-Star Game, according to Nielsen Social.
The SNL show counts as NBC's most watched prime-time entertainment telecast, in total viewers, since May 13, 2004. That night "ER" had 23.9 million viewers on the night of the "Frasier" finale. That number excludes post-Super Bowl programs.
The West beat the East 163-158 in the highest-scoring NBA All-Star Game.

Chevy Chase looked unrecognizable.
If we had a 2015 death watch, Chevy would be way up there on my list. I know he's 71, but he still didn't look or sound good. He was on Carson Daly a while back and was just as bad with his rambling on. It's hard to believe that this guy was once the leading successor to Johnny Carson's on the tonight show. But Carson wasn't very high on him. He once said that "Chevy Chase couldn't ad lib a fart after a baked bean dinner." Ouch!
